Hilary is terrible.

FatWalda · 19/05/2015 12:11

I knew a Lesley at university who went by the name Lee. Still very masculine though.

I also know a female American Leslie - I don't know if that's the usual female spelling there but it can be confusing for Brits.

SadLesley · 19/05/2015 14:24

MitzyLeFrouf - I have my eye on you ... moved on to knocking the Hilarys of this world now, have you? That is actually my middle name. Only joking, it's not but honest to goodness (a 'Lesley' phrase if ever there was one) what is wrong with Hilary? I know a couple of lovely Hilarys.

Don't love the American pronunciation of Lesley though - it's all 'Luz-lee' which give me the dry boak.

Thanks for the flowers WyrdByrd - sending you a Cake right back since you took a battering on the royal name thread. It is surprisingly disconcerting to find your name is such a source of scorn (especially when you say oh that is my name and 100 new bods pile on in saying 'oh that's a shite name' Grin)

balletnotlacrosse · 19/05/2015 15:40

Why all the hate for Barbara? It's a lovely name.

MrsTrentReznor · 19/05/2015 15:50

I can't say the name Barbara without doing an impression of that bloke from the night of the living dead. "They're coming for you Barbara!"
But I am a silly person.

GilbertBlytheWouldGetIt · 19/05/2015 15:56

MrsTrent, I also do that very impersonation. I'm not ashamed.

MitzyLeFrouf · 19/05/2015 16:02

Sorry SadLesley, I don't want to add to your sorrows! I've just always had an aversion to Hilary. Don't mind Barbara though and lots of other old fashioned names.

If it gives you any comfort I also have a name that peaked in popularity in around 1980 and I'm sure if someone posted a thread about it there'd be lots of sniffy remarks (and I would hack into MN's records, track down all who sniffed at my name and give them a stern talking to).

You sound a right 'Lesley' at heart Mitzy

lazydog · 19/05/2015 16:53

Another no vote here. It probably doesn't help that I only know two and they're both pretty unpleasant people. I'm sure SadLesley is lovely though! Grin

Oops! Sorry about that!

SadLesley · 19/05/2015 16:55

Oh thank you Lazydog - that's balsam to my battered soul.

MitzyLeFrouf · 19/05/2015 16:58

I always thought the inner me would be called Bianca del Rio, but if you insist it's Lesley well.........that's ummm, nearly as good.

LostAtTheFair · 19/05/2015 17:09

I really like Lesley...always have! Always imagined Lesleys to be pretty and cool. Smile

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 19/05/2015 17:16

Oh I like it. I think it's very pretty. I've known 2 Lesleys. Both lovely and never encounted any teasing issues. But then I've never known anyone to be treased in regards to their name. I'd say go for it. You certainly won't get many of them in the classroom.
Those daft fandangled names have had their day now. About time we saw some classic old names back.

I have always thought this is one of the most awful girls names to be honest.

A gorgeous little baby girl "let's call her ....Lesley" Confused

Awful

hobNong · 19/05/2015 17:26

I like the name. I know a Lesley and I don't particularly like her, but I do like her name.

hawkmcqueen · 19/05/2015 18:47

No. Just no.

DoNotCallYourBabyLesley · 19/05/2015 19:28

I'm going to assume that all the people who know a Lesley but don't actually like her/think she's unpleasant are talking about me. Grin

DoNotCallYourBabyLesley · 19/05/2015 19:36

For full horror, go with the following middle names:

Lesley Donna (lovely Les-Don shortening available)
Lesley Beverley (Les-Bev also delightful)
Lesley Barbara (Les-Babs, who wouldn't want to name their baby that?!?)

noddyholder · 19/05/2015 19:38

Its my name I don't like it or dislike it never think about it really but was surprised to hear from some younger friends that is back in fashion amongst 30 something mums Shock

spaghettina · 23/05/2015 09:32
