Help - ever changing short list

mamaslatts · 03/05/2015 21:02

1 week to go and the short list keeps changing. We have 2 DS with uncommon 'cool' (just outside top 100) names. Doesn't matter if DC3 has more popular name but would like to avoid really popular (top 10). Like Evie/Evangeline for a girl but seems there are zillions around at present. So.

Boys: Dylan, Milo, (both similar type names to DS 1&2), Laurie (DH family name), Otis, Lysander, Luca,

Girls: Martha, Ottilie, Darcey, Clara,

Boys' names particularly hard as don't really love any of them..

Why not Evangeline nn Evan? Sooooo much cooler than Evie! On our shortlist :) Love Dylan and Otis too, you have good taste! ;)

timelyreminder · 03/05/2015 23:19

I like Dylan, Darcey and Clara.

Guin1 · 04/05/2015 06:46

Vote for Otis and Martha.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 04/05/2015 11:46

I'd go for Dylan or Martha.

Also like Luca & Clara.

mamaslatts · 04/05/2015 12:49

thanks all.

Bree - Evangeline was on our short list but so many people on here say the whole Eve/Evie/Eva/Ava has been done to death but maybe it will go back on...

Quite a few Milo and Dylans round here too, but no Darceys - is this getting very popular now? Even within London the most popular names seem to vary, in our last borough it was all Felix and Daisy (with the odd Merlin) whereas here there are more Arlo, Mia with a few Dylans. Not an Oliver to be seen!

I like Milo from your boys list and Martha and Clara are both lovely.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 04/05/2015 16:49

I love Ottilie. DH has vetoed it for our baby

Mermaid - thought about Cassius but not too keen on Tristan. Yes, I like Elodie for a girl!

HuftysTrain · 05/05/2015 00:44

I think Ottilie is one of those names that a lot of mums like but dads veto. I suggested it to DH and he replied "as in Butterly?" I said "No, Ottilie!" And he said "is it something to do with otters? I don't get it." It was a funny conversation but maybe you had to be there...

Wishful80smontage · 05/05/2015 00:58

I like Clara best out of your girl short list.
Have you thought about Linus for a boy ?

mamaslatts · 05/05/2015 13:36

Huftlys - yes, DH was 'never heard of it' what? about it

Wishful - yes, I suggested Linus to DH, he then suggested Silas which reminds me a bit of Silage..

Like Laurie as a nickname for Laurence, Martha and Clare. I know 3 Darcey's under 2.

Madbengalmum · 05/05/2015 18:32

Think darcey is chavvy,sorry.

Luca and ottillie

mamaslatts · 06/05/2015 10:27

youmake - thanks, haven't heard any Darceys so interesting to know its getting more popular

Madbengal - thank you for your honesty! I'd rather know now than later

Oh I missed Luca on your list too, I like that too!
All the Darcey's I know are in Bristol Smile

Sootgremlin · 06/05/2015 10:55

Laurie is quite feminine sounding, I like it (little women!) but just to put it out there that many might think it a girls name, depending on your circle.

Love Clara, but as she is the current Doctor Who assistant it might become more common, as Amelia did recently.

I know a few little Marthas and hear Darcey a lot for girls so think they are both fairly popular.

Ottilie I hear a lot on hear and nowhere else, but I don't personally think it has a nice sound (as above, Utterly and Otter)

Dylan v popular for boys and girls. Don't know any Milos (it is the name of one of the Tweenies if that bothers you)

Sonny? Jude? Raphael? Rowan? Rory?
