A middle name for Flora?

I love Rose but it is a bit overly floral Grin I also like Niamh but DH worries people won't be able to pronounce it. I don't like May.

Help!

Are you looking for a one-syllable name? Otherwise it's a bit difficult to make suggestions without knowing how the surname sounds.

Jane
Jean
Joan
Joy
Jay
Kay
Hope
Faith

Evangeline sprang to mind initially!

Also

Beatrice

OneMagnumisneverenough · 27/04/2015 18:57

I like Jane or Jean as suggested above or:

Flora Rae
Flora Mairi
Flora Kirstin
Flora Alice
Flora Elise
Flora Suzanne

Allthatnonsense · 27/04/2015 19:20

Flora Alice is gorgeous!

Thanks, some lovely suggestions. I had thought I wanted a one syllable name but nothing grabs me. I think it's hard without telling my surname and I don't want to, sorry!

I worry that a longer middle name sort of outshines the first name somehow?

Although I do love Flora Evangeline!

Scottish is good too... Evangeline may be a little OTT.

Middle names either need to be really bland or actually mean something IMO, that's the problem. DS has DH's name as his middle name. One of the names suggested above is actually my mother's name, but then would my MiL be offended? Minefield.

Ooh Flora Rosalind might work. I still love Rose but know it's just not an option. Also love Skye but that's out! Although am proud of my daughter-to-be's namesake Smile

Blahia · 27/04/2015 21:48

I personally don't like the ending of Flora together with the beginning of Rose/Rosalind etc. Too RA-RO for me.

I love Flora though, how about
Flora Ida
Flora Ivy
Flora Lux
Flora Pearl
Flora Mimi
Flora Estelle?

pootlebug · 27/04/2015 21:53

My eldest is Flora. FWIW I agonised over middle names, preferring 1-syllable names, or >2 syllable names, rather than 2 syllables followed by 2 syllables. In the end we decided names as:

  • My first choice name (Flora)
  • Husband's first choice name (2-syllables as well, suggested above...)

She's 7 now. It sounds 'right' and none of those worries about the middle name 'going' with the first name really seem relevant.

Rhubarbgarden · 29/04/2015 18:58

I think two syllable middle names work if the stress is on the second syllable and they begin with a consonant, e.g.

Flora Simone
Flora Marie
Flora Denise
Flora Louise

Coastingit · 29/04/2015 19:51

Ooh you're right Rhubarb, they all flow really nicely. I'm not convinced by any of those particularly though - Marie is quite nice.

One of Princess Alexandra's granddaughters is Flora Alexandra (Ogilvy).

Coastingit · 29/04/2015 19:53

Front runners are

Flora Elizabeth
Flora Grace
Flora Rosalind

In that order of current preference.

Buttery?

Seriously,

Jane
Ellen
Elise
May

Coastingit · 29/04/2015 19:55

Honestly...
Would the margarine thing out people off?
Will she be teased?

I love the name so much but it's a tiny worry, also that it's so gorgeous yet out of the top 100 despite being similar to so many top ten type names. Why is it not more popular?
