Juno or Luna??

38 weeks pregnant today with DD2. DD1 is Polly. She's that because we were listening to Nirvanas Nevermind and that was that, she was always going to be Polly.

DD2 we have tried to find a name from music we love so that she too has a song. Luna is the last track on Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins. Apart from the musical connection I do really like it. But, I was in a soft play a few months ago and since then have preferred Juno.

Both Luna and Juno fit my criteria of being unusual without being too weird. Imo anyway! I'm not hugely bothered that people will think of Luna Lovegod or the film Juno.

I'm just not sure whether I go with Luna because it fits better or go with Juno on the simple basis of liking it more!

DH happy with both though tends towards Luna. And in helpfully says it's my decision!

Thoughts?

Juno. I've always had a soft spot for this name, but would never have been allowed to use it.

I like Luna too, but Juno just has the edge for me.

Heels99 · 23/04/2015 10:02

Sorry not a fan of either. Luna love good gets called loony love good the whole time, no child wants that!
Juno, meh, is it a boy or a girl would be my first thought, I know she is a Roman goddess but do many people make that association with it being a female name?
I think you can keep looking, Polly is lovely.

MrsUnderwood · 23/04/2015 10:03

I think they're both lovely names! It depends if you want her to have a tougher sounding name or something more traditionally feminine sounding?

Marcipex · 23/04/2015 10:03

Luna is called Loony throughout the books tho.
Lorna is pretty and still unusual.

floatyflo · 23/04/2015 10:06

I'm not sure either go with Polly. Not sure why.
Like Juno more than Luna however.
Lorna just reminds me of Lorna Bliss - the Britney impersonator on BGT.

MrsUnderwood · 23/04/2015 10:07

I think both Luna and Juno are both cool characters so if anyone takes the piss she can point out how baller they are. IMO it's better than being named after te drippy main character in a series of boring vampire books. Wink

Juno over Luna for me. Luna seems a bit faddy; Juno is nicely Classical. Have you thought of Hero, which goes nicely with Polly?

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 23/04/2015 10:24

How about Iris (Goo goo dolls, great song).

Out of your two I prefer Juno.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 23/04/2015 10:46

I prefer Juno (sounds more kick-ass, less airy fairy) but both are really nice names.

crapfatbanana · 23/04/2015 10:50

Not so keen on either.

Joni, Judy (is a punk), Julia
Oonagh, Una
Lyra, Lara, Lana, Lois
Eloise (The Damned)

WinterBabyof89 · 23/04/2015 10:52

Luna :)

sockmatcher · 23/04/2015 10:55

I like both. Prefer Juno. (I think of the magazine not film)

Know of a Luna too.

sockmatcher · 23/04/2015 10:55

Like iris too ( mil middle name and she hated it)

BeanCalledPickle · 23/04/2015 11:01

It's definitely one of the two. Not even beginning to think about other names at this point!

Juno, by a mile. Luna just makes me think of lunatic, sorry.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 23/04/2015 12:08

Ivory took the words out if my mouth.
Juno is gorgeous

I like both, prefer Luna though. It's such a pretty sound.

clairewitchproject · 23/04/2015 12:13

Friend's DD is called Juno. Only issue when you refer to her is you say 'Juno went swimming' or whatever and the person you are speaking to says 'what do you mean, do I know went swimming, that doesn't make sense...' because Juno sounds very like 'D'you know' in conversation. Its a shame because it's a cool name...

Polly ends up well! She was clever enough to convince her captor that she enjoyed it and he let her go. Which I thought was a pretty clever thing to do. Saying that there have been a few versions of what he was thinking when he wrote it, and given what happened to him I'm guessing we will never know....

Juno is beautiful, Luna makes me think insane or the moon.

RabidFairy · 23/04/2015 12:35

I'm using Luna for a middle name for DC3, but Juno is lovely, too!

QueQuesto · 23/04/2015 12:37

I like Luna, makes me think of the my little pony but that's possibly because I have a DD going through pony obsession.

squoosh · 23/04/2015 12:50

Luna does remind me of 'lunatic'. It's too frantic a name.

Juno is much nicer.
