Do you like Ottilie?

For DD due in the summer?

I'm really struggling with names and just can't decide - go from one to the other. I don't know any other Ottilie's but at the same time it isn't vastly unusual, I don't think.

If you don't like it, feel free to make other suggestions!

I think it's awful, but maybe if your social circle includes lots of Hugos and Cressidas it would work. What other names do you like?

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 06/04/2015 21:09

It's lovely!

YonicScrewdriver · 06/04/2015 21:10

yes

reddaisy · 06/04/2015 21:10

Yes!

DramaAlpaca · 06/04/2015 21:10

Yes, I like it.

FurbysMakeSexNoises · 06/04/2015 21:10

Love it but won't be everyone's taste.. If you love it then go for it.

StandoutMop · 06/04/2015 21:12

Yes, but dh didn't so I didn't get to have one, despite 3 dds Sad

tootsietoo · 06/04/2015 21:12

I love it. DD1 would have been Ottilie but DH didn't like it.

ThereMustAndShallBeTea · 06/04/2015 21:12

I love it, but for years, having heard it but not seen it written down, I thought it was "Otterly" and thought it was ridiculous Blush

fruitpastille · 06/04/2015 21:15

A bit pretentious imo.

Marmaladedandelions · 06/04/2015 21:17

My DD1 is called Flora. Her brother is Edward.

I love Hugo :) but this ones a girl from the looks of things. Cressida makes me think of cress.

What other names do I like - cripes. Have toyed with Skye and Summer. Also like Rosamund but not Roz, like Miranda, Mabel, Mariana.

Hmm
Mistlewoeandwhine · 06/04/2015 21:21

I really like it plus it goes with your kids' names.

KeturahLee · 06/04/2015 21:21

Skye and Summer seem like the opposite end of the name spectrum to Ottilie Grin

Mabel is nice - how about Martha? Or Rosa? Iona?

MrsLettuce · 06/04/2015 21:23

I loved Ottilie. DP vetoed it in the end, couldn't hack it at all. The DD I wanted it for is nearly 8 and very grateful to him, says it's a ridiculous name...

I think it works better it the UK (we're not) but still love it.

Marmaladedandelions · 06/04/2015 21:23

:) Do you think? I really like them.

I quite like Martha but most Martha's I know of tend to be from religious homes. Iona makes me think of iodine Blush and rosa is okay but don't think I'd use it.

(I also vetoed several of his names which would have been odd to the English speaking ear BTW. Was fair Smile)

KeturahLee · 06/04/2015 21:26

Skye and Summer seem more young, trendy, hippyish whereas Ottilie is old fashioned, horsey, posh.

OlivesTree · 06/04/2015 21:27

If DS2 was a girl he would have been Ottilie. I loved it when I was pregnant, but turned out he was a boy and now I am a little bit glad I don't have an Ottilie as it just feels a bit.... I don't even know what.. pretentious maybe? Still really like the name but I think I would have felt a bit silly introducing my child as that name. If you like it and are comfortable with it you should do it though, it is lovely.
Btw, my DD1 is Flora too!

OlivesTree · 06/04/2015 21:27

I love Mabel.

Marmaladedandelions · 06/04/2015 21:29

:) I do have horses, although they are three muddy ponies so not very posh Grin

Olive, we must have similar tastes in names! I love Flora and it really suits her. Toyed with April as she was born this month but was swayed to Flora in the end.

Skye and Summer are pretty opposite to your other DCs names. Not that they need to match i guess.

I like Ottilie.
I also like Octavia and Mariana, and like the suggestion of Martha a lot.
What about Cleodie. It's would have been the name of my 3rd DD if I'd decided do go for no. 3.

Marmaladedandelions · 06/04/2015 21:34

I haven't heard Cleodie before.

DH 'helped' name the other two, is probably why. I was keen on Wilfred for DS (after Wilfred Owen) but was vetoed.

Reading it I thought of crocodiles.. I'm not much of a fan.

fourteen · 06/04/2015 21:36

Ottilie Butterly Grin
