Sally or Tamsin

We're expecting DC1 and I'm considering both the above names if it's a girl.

Also like Orla and Connie, but these have both been "taken" by friends recently.

I like 2-syllable names that are unusual but known. Surname is three syllables starting with P.

My worry with Tamsin is that it will become "Tam" or "Tammy". Does anyone know any Tamsins that became "shortened"?

Thanks for all input.

My aunt is a Tamsin. It is never shortened. It is a beautiful name.

Sally seems old-fashioned to me (though I know it's making a comeback), and to me it sounds like a shortening already.

gaahhnonicknamesleft · 06/03/2015 20:55

Both gorgeous names

Tam prob better than Sal though?

TooTiredToThinkOfAUsername · 06/03/2015 20:58

Sally is "short" for Sarah. Just to throw that in.

I know a couple of Tamsins that are not shortened. And a Tamara that is always shortened to Tam.

I think Tamsin would get my vote.

Bowlersarm · 06/03/2015 20:58

I know two Tamsins who never have their names shortened. That's not to say it wouldn't happen to your Tamsin though!

I think Sally is quite a weak name though, and Sal even worse.

Jenny? Suzy?

MrsBungle · 06/03/2015 20:59

Tamsin is much nicer than Sally in my opinion.

StrawberryMojito · 06/03/2015 21:06

I went to school with a Tamsin who was known to everyone as Tamsy, so not shortened at all.
What about Corinne if you like Connie?
I like Sally by the way.

Gunpowder · 06/03/2015 21:08

I'd say Sally! Very cute and 50s and ripe for revival.

UpMyOwnArseMoneyFlinger · 06/03/2015 21:08

I really like them both but I think Tamsin just edges it. I know two adult Tamsins and they haven't been shortened.

FaktiskErJegIkkeEnNerd · 06/03/2015 21:14

Sally

I like Tammy though. What's wrong with Tammy? Tamsin I don't like much

FaktiskErJegIkkeEnNerd · 06/03/2015 21:14

Tamara as suggested is much nicer

EeB00 · 06/03/2015 21:14

I like Tamsin best.

rockinrobintweet · 06/03/2015 21:18

Sally is one of my favourite names for personal reasons.

I like Tamsin a lot though. Tamara was on my list as I like Tammy and Tam are nice. i also imagined me calling her Rara when she was young.

johendy · 06/03/2015 21:23

I love Sally, fast nicer than Tamsin I think.

StaircaseAtTheUniversity · 06/03/2015 21:29

Just putting it out there- Sadie is a "shortened" version of Sarah like Sally, but in my opinion much nicer.

DramaAlpaca · 06/03/2015 21:33

I love Tamsin, and also the spelling Tamzin.

I know two Tamsins, one now in her 40s, one aged 5, and both are always known as Tamsin, never a nickname.

I'm not keen on Sally at all.

sleeponeday · 06/03/2015 22:04

I knew two Tamsins. Never shortened.

I've known two Sallys, and disliked both of them for very solid reasons. So my opinion is biased!

Alisvolatpropiis · 06/03/2015 22:23

I much prefer Tamsin.

I knew one at school. as far as I know was only ever called Tamsin.

Excitingtimesahead · 06/03/2015 22:46

Tamsin

Koalafications · 06/03/2015 22:48

Tamsin is better than Sally by a country mile. Sally is just

CointreauVersial · 06/03/2015 22:48

My niece is Tamsin, never shortened.

I don't know any Sallys under 40!

Mylittlepotofjoy · 06/03/2015 23:00

Sally it's a lovely name and very under used. I have only ever known one ( and I'm 49) and she is wonderful :)

Needalifecoach · 06/03/2015 23:02

I know a lovely Sally but she always said it was a dog's name.

chickydoo · 06/03/2015 23:08

Not keen on either......sorry

GingerLDN · 06/03/2015 23:33

Really dislike the name Sally, it reminds me of the pain in the neck on Corrie. Actually I quite like Corinne as a name/Corrie for short.

ScaryChicken · 06/03/2015 23:34

Tamsin is great
