Names you're glad you didn't use.

Over the years I've had various 'favourite' baby names but by the time I've had a DC I've had a new favourite.

But now thinking back I'm glad I didn't use some of my old favourites!

Crystal- so 80s, would be so dated now

Bailey and Courtney- I think these would be considered 'c' now.

Dawn- a bit boring.

Cameron- would hate for my DC to have the same names as a Tory pm.

Anastasia- 50 shades has ruined this beautiful name!

Lysander - this was a serious consideration for DC1, who thankfully turned out to be a DD.

I wanted to call DD (3.5) Isis. It's taken on a more negative conotation in her lifetime.

We liked Isis and Etta but had a boy. It was pointed out to me that Etta sounds like ETA. ISIS wasn't well known at the time though but obviously is now!

Lily - Most of my life growing up, I had my heart set on a baby daughter called Lily, short for Lillian (which is a family name). By the time I became pregnant much later in life, every second girl under the age of 5 was called Lily and it no longer appealed.

Evelyn - When my sister had her third baby (I must have been in my early teens), 'Evelyn' was on the table and I was disappointed she didn't choose it. She told me I should use it for any future babies and it's always been at the back of my mind. A year before I became pregnant my best friend had a baby daughter Evelyn :-)

I'm mostly grateful for not using the names because of the extreme popularity now lol

Lincoln - I love it but I think it wouldn't have been warmly accepted.

Elsa. DS would have been elsa if a girl and he was born just before the Frozen madness. It would have been assumed we named her after the character in that film. Though my dm associates it with born free instead!

Quincy and Franklin.Im glad i didnt use them names as i dont really like them now.Also had Dexter but the series was on at the time and it put me off the name.

Harper.

I really loved this name. Had a miscarriage just before the Beckhams had their harper and announced her name.

Seems crazy a person has been born and reached three years of age but dp and I still don't feel ready to TTC yet.

DS2 was nearly Sebastian. It's an OK-ish name if you live in Chelsea, I imagine, but he's so not a Sebastian.

I had Anastasia down on my list for DC2. Thankfully he was DS. In my defence I haven't read Fifty shades.

Rafael. I loved it but on DS arrival, he wouldn't have suited it at all! Which is lucky as he is v keen rugby player out in the rural sticks. And I am actually very conventional and possibly the last person you would imagine choosing such a name:) also it's not exactly a family name!

I have no idea what I was thinking:)

Ive always wanted to avoid popular names and about 5 years ago my favourite name for a girl was Isla as I thought it was really unusual! Now Im glad it took a little longer conceiving our daughter as by the time she was born I realised it was too popular!

Vladimir. Considered it 11 years ago, when Putin didn't seem quite so bad. Thankfully dd1 was a girl.

(Actually I know a female Vlada).

Ruby and Lily, 13 years ago when I was pregnant these names seemed pretty and unusual to me. Within three years of my dd's birth the names were ubiquitous. Still pretty obviously.

I know an Anastasia but she's 12. She predates the books. I had Madeleine on my list too. My dd's name doesn't 'wow that's unusual' people but there aren't many about all the same.

My DDs are teens, at the time I was expecting DD2 I thought Rita was an edgy name.
It doesn't have any negative connotations, in fact, I still like it but I'm glad I didn't use it.

I'd always liked Lewis for a boy but my cousin beat me to it - her surname is Hamilton so it's actually turned into a bit of a joke name for the poor lad :(

Luckily my OH doesn't like the name so it doesn't matter :)

Oh god my friend has a niece called Isis. She's two. We all thought it was beautiful at the time :(

Such a shame that this beautiful name has been hijacked

As a young mum to be (who thought I was cool) dc1 was nearly called Storm, Raven or Blue . Thank fuck I came to my senses Grin

Really liked Oscar for DS and was on mat leave during the 2012 Olympics/Paralympics when Pistorius was a golden boy. We used it as a middle instead of first name in the end.

Not exactly the same but as a teenager I was at a school where having a baby at 16 was a career choice. A lot of my friends were pregnant so I spent a lot of my time thinking about baby names. If I had had a baby at 16 a girl would have been Called Siobhan. I still love the name but I wouldn't use it now (i'm pregnant with a girl) - at 16 I didn't appreciate everyone would assume Irish heritage (of which I have none) with that name.

My aunty loved Britney when pregnant. She gave my cousin a different name which was just as well as a few months later Britney Spears became the biggest thing.
