We've just told the patents we're having another DC.

Their suggestions so far are

Ian and
Malcolm for boys
and
Jean for a girl!

No no no!

'Ethelred, why are you always late for school?'

'Nominative determinism, Miss'

CaTsMaMmA · 08/03/2015 10:42

oh AUDACIOUS is so so the right way to describe Geronimo!

I am still laughing. And I need to use audacious far more in everyday conversation.

RedToothBrush · 08/03/2015 10:49

I am definitely in the minority. I like Hercules, Red, Zeus, Thor, Jett and Geronimo...

I fear this is probably because these are the types of names my parents would have suggested in jest over the years. So I've come to love them. Much to my parents horror.

FarHaveITravelled · 08/03/2015 10:49

If I had had a DD my DM wanted me to use Dorcas.

I know many Malcolm's though of various ages but live in Scotland where it's fairly normal as a name.

Firecrest · 08/03/2015 10:51

Why do parents/PILs think it is in any way their decision!!?

And why not, when they come up with names as great as Peregrine Nirpal?

THEworrywart · 08/03/2015 11:01

My mum keeps saying dexter my sister keeps saying pandora or Camilla (sorry if this offends anyone) but these are just not names for me!

raspberrywhitechocolate · 08/03/2015 11:11

Just want to add that I know a three year old Ian Grin strangely suits him

TouchPauseEngage · 08/03/2015 12:16

MIL will be glad Geronimo is getting such a favourable reaction! We're going for dinner with PIL tonight so I will report back on any other gems they come up with...

Kittykatmacbill · 08/03/2015 13:04

Ooh Ian is a great name! Except for the bf stage maybe it would be like bfing a Keith!

Also quite like Jean!

Boringly neither DP nor DIL suggested anything... Although I suspect Janet and David would have been top of the list.... Hmmm.

bigfam · 08/03/2015 13:10

Pamela, not that I've got anything against the actual name, she suggested we use it because it's HER (mil's) name.
No, I will not name my child after or for you thanks.

ZoomZoomToTheMoon · 08/03/2015 13:51

I actually really love MIL's first name and considered it for DD. But we chickened out because my own mum would have gone beserk at MIL getting that accolade (even though it would only have been because we liked the name... :(

Bazza2 · 08/03/2015 14:14

rosedavo · 10/03/2015 00:37

I nearly got named 'fuscia' and would have been named 'bathen' if i was a boy...i think i escaped lightly!

rosedavo · 10/03/2015 00:48

I also love the name rufus, bit everyone kept going on and on that i couldnt call a child that and thats its a dogs name :(!

mathanxiety · 10/03/2015 05:15

Stacey, Erin, Jennifer and Roberta -- thanks but no thanks mum.

I know two sets of American brothers who are Graham and Ian, and none of the four are over 12.
Also one Mack with a 'Mc' surname.

PixelFloyd · 10/03/2015 05:46

We wanted an unusual name for our DS - explained this to my DM approximately 15 times, yet her suggestions were:

Harry
David
William
Tim
Joe

Confused
Melonhead11 · 10/03/2015 07:41

My granny suggested Aileen. She did also suggest my bridesmaids should wear peach dresses though..

BabySalt · 10/03/2015 20:22

We have a dog called Indie. My nana suggested Cidie... Seriously!

BabySalt · 10/03/2015 20:26

Also hubby suggested Horatio, Ignatious and Pepe... Luckily we have just found out we're having a girl and have actually agreed on a name we both love which is less 'out there'

Pandora37 · 10/03/2015 20:30

My grandmother suggested Brenda and Patricia for my niece. Funnily enough, my sister wasn't keen on either of them.

I met a baby Malcolm recently!

Pandora37 · 10/03/2015 20:32

Forgot to add, I told my grandmother that Brenda and Patricia are definitely not in vogue and that I've met lots of Lilys, Florences, Ivys and Elsies. She screwed up her nose in disgust and declared them to be crusty old lady names, she was convinced that Florence and Elsie would be bullied at school. Grin

reuset · 10/03/2015 21:21

Muriel, Clark, Pippa were suggested to me. Needless to say I didn't use any of them

Marcipex · 10/03/2015 23:00

My mother suggested Jenny, and wanted me to promise I wouldn't use Stacey. Just in case Stacey was ever in the running, which it wasn't.
