We've just told the patents we're having another DC.

Their suggestions so far are

Ian and
Malcolm for boys
and
Jean for a girl!

No no no!

FIL suggested David. It's not terrible but not our style at all. DS is called Cassius.

My mum took the hump with me when she found out I was having another boy. She's been touting her name (Iris) with all three of my pregnancies.

Anyway, she hates the name we've chosen and has suggested Elliott, Tommy (just Tommy, not Thomas) and Denzel. I've told her no. She is sulking Grin

DH is Malcolm. He loathes it. It is actually his middle name which tells you how bad his first name actually is. His parents have dreadful naming styles, very old fashioned. The first name is a family name passed down through generations until we had DS1 and put a stop to it!

duplodancer · 05/03/2015 17:09

DM suggested Fanny. She wasn't joking. Shock

CrispyFern · 05/03/2015 17:14

Jean is very on trend.

LosingNemo · 05/03/2015 17:28

My mum called DD Lesbia-Bogan until she was born...

Allalonenow · 05/03/2015 17:43

Grin Geronimo!
Though I quite like Aubrey.

Lillygolightly · 05/03/2015 17:46

Its funny how naming styles change after always declaring I would have unusual/unique names for my children years before ever being pregnant I two very usual named DD's. I wouldn't change either of their names though DD1 I just knew what her name would be when I was pregnant with her and it wasn't a name that I had ever thought of before. DD2 I wanted to call her Marissa DH wasn't keen so it's now her middle name instead but in fairness she totally suits her first name which DH picked.

Very lucky in that PIL aren't the type to suggest names and didn't show much like/dislike for any names we had on the list and were happy to go with anything we chose. My sister came up with a few....Tilly being one...sorry to anyone who has a Tilly but I loath this name.

If I ever had DD3...I would be stuck as I feel like I've used all the girl names I like. I've loads of boy names on standby though lol

marshmallowpies · 05/03/2015 17:46

My mum kept suggesting Susanna which is lovely but my exBFs mum, toxic ex 'MIL' is Susan...no way was a child of mine getting a name that reminded me of her!

marshmallowpies · 05/03/2015 17:51

Squoosh I love Ruth - but we have a 1 syllable surname so needed something a bit longer than that. Would have been a nice middle name though...

swampytiggaa · 05/03/2015 17:57

Colin. Nuff said.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 05/03/2015 18:01

DH found an article where the pope was bemoaning the demise of 'traditional' Christian names. He is therefore campaigning for 'Radbod, Nebuchadnezzar or Dorcas...

Interesting post and funny to read!
My partners aunty suggested Marshall for my baby boy as she thinks my partner looks like Eminem. Please note, he looks absolutely nothing like Eminem! Not that that's the point. Marshall?! Not a name I like at all!

PuppyMonkey · 05/03/2015 19:42

It's Arianne in GoT, not Ariadne.

Debinaround · 05/03/2015 22:30

MIL wants Page or Chelsea for a girl. Told her no way.
My DH suggested Elliott, Winston and Dean for a boy. Told him the same. Grin

MrsEricBana · 05/03/2015 22:37

My lovely dad suggested Clive for ds. Erm...

Mack, we have a Mc surname Confused

Jeanniejampots80 · 06/03/2015 10:56

Ha, I was coming on to say no to Jean as its mine and I hate it and now I have discovered I am way cooler than I thought....if a few years late

squoosh · 06/03/2015 11:02

Jeannie you are at the vanguard of hip!

heylilbunny · 08/03/2015 09:41

Ian has become very trendy in the US. I have two lovely American friends with young sons (under 6) called Ian. I think they do not not have the 1970s/80s associations we do as I think this is a "new" name to them. I also know an American family with four young children and their youngest son (aged about 7) is Clive!

I like Jean and Ruth.

Gunpowder · 08/03/2015 09:53

I've got a friend who is French, and thinks the name Ian is unbelievably sexy! Grin

Choccyhobnob · 08/03/2015 10:02

Not that this is the point but it's Arya in game of thrones (which is actually a nice name!)

Bazza2 · 08/03/2015 10:08

My DP is making similar suggestions. I have pointed out that I am not giving birth to a 47-year-old IT manager. My mother's list includes similar names but also includes Ethelread. You know, The Unready.

Rosieliveson · 08/03/2015 10:25

Bertram. A lost family name apparently. I will not be the one to revive it Grin
