We've just told the patents we're having another DC.

Their suggestions so far are

Ian and
Malcolm for boys
and
Jean for a girl!

No no no!

Neil and Ruth.

Ugh.

BellMcEnd · 05/03/2015 12:34

Nirpal (mil)
Peregrine (dm)

Obviously as they're both such marvellous names we hyphenated them HmmWink

MollieCoddler · 05/03/2015 12:35

My mil suggested James which would have been fine but it is also my surname.... (but not dhs)

CaptainFabulous · 05/03/2015 12:36

My Mum text me while I was in labour to say 'what about Ellis?'

I replied 'what about it, woman, I'm dilating here!'

Hmm Grin

squoosh · 05/03/2015 12:36

I quite like Jean. Malcolm and Ian are the pits though.

feetheart · 05/03/2015 12:43

Thankfully both my mum and MiL were insistent that we promised NOT to use their names if we had a DD. To DD's great relief we did as we were told :o

FickleByNurture · 05/03/2015 13:00

Also Caitlin, which is forever ruined for me by Ms Moran.

Artandco · 05/03/2015 13:03

I like Derek tbh, it's the Same vibe as Eric or Lionel both which I love

PuppyMonkey · 05/03/2015 13:07

My nephew is called Matthew and for years my dad somehow struggled with this, accidentally calling him Malcolm Grin

He couldn't understand why my sister would get so huffy, and claimed "well, they're quite similar names imho."

Chips1999 · 05/03/2015 13:09

DM suggested Ethan which I really like but DH was set on DS's name already! DM didn't have any girl suggestions as she knows we've had DDs name in mind for ages.

birchwoods · 05/03/2015 13:14

Names currently being suggested by my parents for a girl are Persephone (actually quite like this) and Ariadne (Game of Thrones?!). They also suggested Rufus for a boy which I love but DH says no Hmm

HubertCumberdale · 05/03/2015 13:15

My FIL has been suggesting names that make me think of middle aged darts enthusiasts; Kevin, Malcome, Ian, Dave (not even David, specifically Dave). He's worried we'll choose a "flouncy" name "like Pedro" Confused (never has Pedro entered my mind).

squoosh · 05/03/2015 13:20
Grin

I love that he's worried that 'flouncy' Pedro will beat steady Dave to the finish line!

funnyossity · 05/03/2015 13:23

Rupert and Roland.

insanityscratching · 05/03/2015 13:24

Mil suggested Simon for a boy and Valerie (her name) for a girl Hmm
Df didn't make any suggestions but when I decided at the last minute to go with another name for dd1 rather than the one I had planned he said he'd always call her the original name. It made me think twice and I stuck to the original name and I'm glad I did because dd2's friend has the alternative name and it really grates on me now.

SukieTuesday · 05/03/2015 13:32

Ariadne isn't G of T it's Ancient Greek!

MIL never suggested anything but said, 'Why are you calling him that???' when we told her the name.

birchwoods · 05/03/2015 15:08

Sukie I know that Ariadne is a real name, it's just a ridiculous suggestion, especially given the current popularity of G of T (which my Dad has never actually seen afaik)! I think he has a flare for the dramatic...

squoosh · 05/03/2015 15:12

But GoT doesn't have a character called Ariadne.

TouchPauseEngage · 05/03/2015 15:15

Sorry guys I wasn't dissing andrew, John, Richard and Peter
Just highlighting the madness of suggesting Geronimo as if it were in the same category. They are all lovely names but much much more normal!!!

GlitzAndGigglesx · 05/03/2015 15:31

Someone suggested Romeo for one of my twins if they're boys. I think it's cute but wouldn't work in 30 years

ladydepp · 05/03/2015 15:37

My DM suggested Russian names for my boys - something like Vladimir or Evgeny.

Only problem, no Russian blood in our family ANYWHERE and our surname is a very English single syllable one.

She is bonkers.

BellMcEnd - Peregrine Nirpal is a fabulous name Grin

FickleByNurture · 05/03/2015 15:50

I know two people called Romeo, neither of them remotely Italian.

ZoomZoomToTheMoon · 05/03/2015 16:09

Miriam. Both times I was pg my mum just wouldn't let it drop. Urgh I hate it! (with apologies to all parents of Miriams and Miriam Margolyes who I love)

Why the feck she didn't just call me Miriam and have done with it I have no idea! (though I'm kind of glad she didn't, as I hate it marginally even more than the name I do have)

She was also shocked and horrified at the names we did choose and declared we couldn't use them Hmm. Why do parents/PILs think it is in any way their decision!!?

ZoomZoomToTheMoon · 05/03/2015 16:10

Ian is a name I can't imagine ever coming back for babies.

I'll probably have a grandson called Ian now I've said that :o
