Caleb or Flynn?

I am due tomorrow and DH and I have still not agreed in a name! We like both these names with my preference being Caleb and DH liking Flynn more. We already have a son called Elliott.

I like a name which you can shorten, so Caleb would be Cal (or Cub while he is a baby) but you can't really shorten Flynn.

Which do you prefer?

I personally love Flynn!
There is always Flynnie or Fin but you could always make a nickname suited to what he looks like or personality!
My mum calls me Snow for some reason and my name is Sophie haha.
Goes with what he looks like I suppose :)

Caleb.

Flynn is a surname and I just can't get used to it being used as a first name.

BananaToast · 02/02/2015 12:36

Flynn

cocobud · 02/02/2015 13:10

Flynn

Lots of popular names are also surnames so I wouldn't worry about that. Thomas, Finn, James, John, to mention a few.

PunkAssMoFo · 02/02/2015 13:14

Caleb.
Love it.

squoosh · 02/02/2015 13:15

But they've always been first names too.

I know surnames as first names is quite fashionable these days but it doesn't sound right to me when it's a name that I know as a common surname. Delaney and Sullivan are other examples that seem to be cropping up.

I like Caleb. It was on my list for DC1 but vetoed by dh.
I don't really get the love affair with Finn and the like

Elpatso80 · 02/02/2015 14:34

Seems to be almost an even split! Snowwy, I guess Flynnie would be a good NN.

I am not too bothered about the whole surname issue, after all, Elliott is also a surname.

I might just have to wait for him to arrive and then decide, but what if we still can't make our minds up then!! With DS1 we had our name picked out at about 6 months!

Flynn.

I'm not a huge fan of Caleb.

MildDrPepperAddiction · 02/02/2015 18:42

Caleb.

D0nnaO · 02/02/2015 18:47

I love both! DH isn't keen on Flynn though so baby was going to be Caleb until we picked something else

mumofthemonsters808 · 02/02/2015 18:57

Celeb, I was in Hollister with my teanage daughter and a young, funky , trendy, boy was being called to by his Mum and he was called Caleb and since then I have loved this name. i think it comes into it's own when baby grows up. I think Flynn is ok, but not a patch on Caleb.

Sophronia · 02/02/2015 19:19

Caleb.

VioletVelvet · 02/02/2015 23:32

I like Flynn best with Elliott. Love Caleb too though!

TheGirlAtTheRockShow · 03/02/2015 07:17

Celeb.
I just don't like the sound of Flynn.

Babylove2015 · 04/02/2015 00:42

GingerLDN · 04/02/2015 02:11

Flynn

ButterflyOfFreedom · 04/02/2015 03:04

Ooh, both fab!

I like Caleb best (just) and think it goes better with Elliott.

Congrats! Smile

DramaAlpaca · 04/02/2015 09:45

Love both. Would probably pick Caleb with Elliott.

HearTheThunderRoar · 04/02/2015 10:27

Flynn.

ParsleyCake · 05/02/2015 22:18

Flynn

ClementineAndCordelia · 07/02/2015 19:43

Either - they are both great with Elliott . Hard to pick one from the other ( have always had a soft spot for Flynn though ) . Good luck - any sign of baby yet ? :)

Elpatso80 · 09/02/2015 11:24

Thanks for all the comments! I am really swaying towards Caleb now. Baby is still not here yet - 6 days over now!

I love Caleb, I think it's timeless. The first time I heard it was in a TV show called American Gothic that I watched in the early 90s and I've loved it since then.
I've only ever met one Caleb and he's my 12 year old son's best friend. I quite liked it for DS2 but my older son ruled it out due to his friend !
