Dusty for a girl?

What do you think? I think I love it, but am fully aware it won't be everybody's cup of tea :o/

We have a very common surname, which it does nicely with.

...before I think of this.

Dusty for a girl?
TheHappinessTrap · 31/01/2015 22:46

I like dusty Springfield, as others have said, and I don't often comment if I don't like a poster's name choice, but as you've asked for opinions I think it's mean to name a girl something akin to dirt, rubbish, something needing to be cleaned. I'm sorry.

CrispyFern · 31/01/2015 22:48

Not my cup of tea.

ChippingInLatteLover · 31/01/2015 22:56

Yes, Dusty Springfield was thus named for being a grubby little thing after playing football in the street.

(Sorry to the poster whose DD is called this)

But no. Really, just no. You might as well call her Gritty or Grubby.

marigoldfreckle · 31/01/2015 23:01

I know a Dusty which is used as a nickname for Elizabeth. It's cute! But how about giving her a more 'solid' name and using Dusty as a nickname?

JakeyBurd · 31/01/2015 23:01

I rather like it. You could try to claim it as a female form of Dustin, at a push...

Although I bet the naysayers would protest at that one too, because it sounds a bit like Dustbin. Smile

mulberrybag · 31/01/2015 23:09

I love it. It's totally different and gorgeous, go for it if you love it

SoupDragon · 31/01/2015 23:14

Makes me think of someone covered in cobwebs.

SoupDragon · 31/01/2015 23:15

How is a word for dirt a gorgeous name? Confused

BlinkingHeck · 31/01/2015 23:17

We had a Labrador called Dusty! So it wouldn't be my choice.

Wasn't there a Dusty in Dallas?

A male one?

Sorry OP but it's not a proper name - it's a nickname.

TheNewStatesman · 01/02/2015 00:20

Christ almighty. NO!!!

Blackforestdonuts · 01/02/2015 02:18

Hello, sorry to add to the negativity but dusty is also a slang term for hungover.
Wine

Blahia · 01/02/2015 05:10

Ahhh yes. I had forgotten that some people on here are unnecessarily rude.

Thanks to those of you who managed to express your opinion without being so, even if you don't like the name :o)

Anyway. I do still like it, but may use it as a middle name that we can then call her if we like.

Great to hear from a mummy of one too!! Well done on going with it -I think it's great name!

No.

magpieginglebells · 01/02/2015 05:34

I'm not keen. I think it's one of those names that a few people could really pull off, but lots couldn't.

cosmicglittergirl · 01/02/2015 08:30

It makes me think of purple sparkly fairy dust! Not a bad thing. It's sweet. Certainly not Dusty Bin as I must have missed it, Dusty Springfield comes to mind more. Like people say, you could use it as a nn, but if you really like it...
My DDs name is also a noun and a pronoun, but I ve only had one comment on that. I think a lot more goes these days in terms of names.

NinjaLeprechaun · 01/02/2015 08:36

I like it, I just can't not think of it as a boy's name. It's a bit like calling a girl Charlie or Alex. I've never (personally) known a Dusty that wasn't short for Dustin.

Cliffdiver · 01/02/2015 08:39

I don't like it at all, sorry. I think it sounds like a stripper name.

m0therofdragons · 01/02/2015 08:39

Porn star name - do you have high ambitions for your dc?

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 01/02/2015 08:47

I'm not going to be rude about it as I'm sure you won't appreciate it... But

NO

Primadonnagirl · 01/02/2015 08:57

Op ... You have also forgotten that posters who start these threads tend to get very miffed when people say they don't like the name and respond with " I still like it and am going to use it anyway" Why ask then?!!!

MsRabbit · 01/02/2015 09:03

I love it, it's cute and unique. However, you should give her a sensible middle which she can revert to if she wants to.

Blahia · 01/02/2015 09:15

Primadonnegirl: because I'm interested in knowing what people think?

I don't mind people saying 'no' of that they dislike it -that's completely fine with me, but some replies were a bit rude, that's all.
By all means, tell me if you don't like it, no problem, I don't like Logan, Justin and Lorna -luckily we don't all like the same names, but we can still be civilised :) x
