Is it too much?

We are having a girl and DH really likes the name Noble.

We have two Middle names picked out Rachael Mary after my best friend and granny.
Noble Rachael Mary
What do you think? Is it too much? We will have both of our last names on her birth certificate but she will go by his last name mostly, not both.

OP posts:

Nobby the Sheep just popped into my head... Sorry!

glub · 19/01/2015 00:10

Some might say the name Noble alone is too much. ..

BiancaDelRio · 19/01/2015 00:10

Noble?!!

For a girl??!!!

Um. I like Mary. And Rachael is nice too.

glub · 19/01/2015 00:12

Gobbler's knob popped into my head :s

Lweji · 19/01/2015 00:16

No.

Rachael Mary or Mary Rachael are fine.

threepiecesuite · 19/01/2015 00:16

Noble is a bit of a name to live up to.

VinoTime · 19/01/2015 00:20

So she would officially be Noble Rachael Mary YourName HisName?

Goodness OP, yes I think it is a bit much! My dd has her first name, two middle names and my surname. But her two middle names are very short and the whole name flows beautifully, so it's not a mouthful by any means.

I think Mary Rachael flows better than Rachael Mary. I think if you're using both surnames you need to drop to one middle name - the poor thing will need to write out all 5 names every time she fills out a form, sits an exam, etc. Could you maybe just use one of the middle names and 'bank' the other?

As for Noble...not overly keen. Sorry!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 19/01/2015 00:20

Noble is a boy's name

Allstoppedup · 19/01/2015 00:20

I'm a Doctor Who fan so I instantly thought of Catherine Tate as Donna Noble!

That's my connection though obviously fairly niche!

I would be concerned that it's shortened version is Nob though. Confused

There are lots of lovely sounding -ble/bel names

I love Maybel

Lweji · 19/01/2015 00:21

Noble is nobody's name. Maybe as a surname, at best a middle name.

Drunkendonut · 19/01/2015 00:24

Not keen but I've heard a lot worse.
Think of shortenings though. Nob?

Marcipex · 19/01/2015 00:28

Noblesse for a girl?

doorbellringer · 19/01/2015 00:29

So five names for the little one to learn to write? I do understand she will just be Noble "Smith" to the world but really 5?

Lweji · 19/01/2015 00:35

At least she'll have other names to replace the first name bad choice.

KoalaDownUnder · 19/01/2015 00:36

Yes, it's way too much. Three names (first, middle, last) is plenty IMHO.

And Noble as a first name for a girl? No.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/01/2015 00:50

Not sure 3 names is a problem. It's using Noble as the first one. Difficult to pull off without sounding like an adjective to describe a girl called RAchael Mary. There's no combination of middle names that will make it sound any better.

Suspect she will have dropped the noble by the time she gets to secondary and will be known as Rachael.

squoosh · 19/01/2015 00:58

Unless your family is mentioned in Burke's Peerage I really wouldn't.
And if your family is mentioned in Burke's Peerage I still wouldn't.

The poor girl would be nobbled by Noble.

Good name for a greyhound though, they have a graceful, aristocratic air about them.

OutragedFromLeeds · 19/01/2015 01:07

DH is being silly. You can't name a baby Noble. It's ridiculous.

Mary and Rachael are both ok.

I'd go for Rachael Mary Surname1 Surname2.

BikeRunSki · 19/01/2015 01:15

Nobel is a bit much by itself.

Heynowbill · 19/01/2015 01:38

I think its best to avoid names that will can be shortened to Nob tbh.

In comparison to that howler, the sheer number of names is a minor point.

Squtternutbaush · 19/01/2015 01:52

I don't like Noble as a first name.

Mary Rachael flows nicely.

LittleBearPad · 19/01/2015 01:56

No to noble. The rest is fine.

Rachael and Mary are both nice names.

Noble is not a name, and just sounds daft.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/01/2015 02:56

Yes op. It's too much. All of it.

If you call your dd Noble be prepared for many speechless and blank look responses when you announce it.
