Hi All,

Would love to hear your thoughts on the name Meadow for a girl? My hubby loves it and it's growing on me. Would like something unusual and slightly unique and would love your opinions please.

Other names we have considered are:
Pheobie
Amber
Fearne
Evie

Many thanks. Xx

I know a baby girl called Meadow. It's lovely!

PotteringAlong · 29/12/2014 06:46

It's a no from me for meadow!

dorasee · 29/12/2014 06:47

How about Willow?

Wonc · 29/12/2014 06:48

No. Meadow is awful.

Hakluyt · 29/12/2014 06:53

Phoebe is lovely-assuming your spelling is a typo.

How about Eve- with Evie as a nickname- nice to have a choice.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 29/12/2014 06:58

Meadow reminds me of the Sopranos

I like Phoebe but wouldn't have a clue how to pronounce Pheobie

elQuintoConyo · 29/12/2014 06:58

As in Soprano? Definitely not. I prefer Phoebe from your list, although you have spelt it wrongly.

elQuintoConyo · 29/12/2014 07:00

Yeah, what she said ^^

Sleet · 29/12/2014 07:05

Yep, sorry it's a typo. Meant Phoebe.

Not keen on Meadow. Like your lost otherwise, also Willow and Fern.

Deerhound · 29/12/2014 08:38

Lost = list, obviously

Panzee · 29/12/2014 08:39

I think Meadow is better suited for a boy.

Tollygunge · 29/12/2014 08:40

Meadow Soprano. Love the name

burgatroyd · 29/12/2014 09:04

Meadow is great!

If you're looking for something unusual then Eve and all variants is pretty popular.

What vibe are you looking for?

How about :

Skye
Wren
Melody
Autumn
Blossom
Cadence
Savannah
Bonnie
Starla
Lyric
Juniper

A lot of these will not be mumsnet favourites but they are nice names in my opinion.

BowiesJumper · 29/12/2014 09:16

I don't mind it. Although it does immediately make me think soprano.

cece · 29/12/2014 09:20

Sorry but Meadow is awful!

TBH I am not a fan of unique and unusual names but how about?

Verity
Una
Lydia
Clara
Jane

deadwitchproject · 29/12/2014 09:22

I like it, although my first association was the Sopranos

AuntieStella · 29/12/2014 09:22

I'm not keen on Meadow (too much a random noun/ location of conception name).

Evie is fine, but lots of them around at the moments. Wouldn't bother me if it was a name I loved, but is Evie one you love or just another on the short list? Or perhaps you don't mind at all.

I love Amber, and think Phoebe is OK. Not keen on Fern (any spelling) as a name.

(Of burgatroyd's list, I think Savannah and Bonnie are lovely; Melody and Cadence are extremely 1970s so might be what you are after; Autumn is OK if you're born in the autumn but weird otherwise, especially as many UK people have heard of it only as the Queen's GDIL; Wren is still far too much associated with the Royal Navy; Skye is OK, Lyric is a theatre, so I'd assume place of conception name; Blossom is a bit My Little Pony; and Juniper when said in ordinary speech sounds like 'did you nip her')

TipsyMcStaggers · 29/12/2014 09:29

I don't like Meadow sorry. I quite like Evie though

SirChenjin · 29/12/2014 09:36

Whether or not Meadow 'works' is very dependent on your surname. Meadow Sneddon, for example, does not work. Meadow Ellis, for example, does work.

I love Phoebe (I'm also presuming a typo when you've spelled it incorrectly) and Evie, not so keen on Amber and Fearne

GristletoeAndWhine · 29/12/2014 09:36

No to meadow
There are lots of evies
Amber is nice

Alwayscheerful · 29/12/2014 09:38

Sibling names could be tricky. I love Meadow, have a friend with four children Bayley, lilah, Meadow & Dawson, lovely children.

SunnyBaudelaire · 29/12/2014 09:38

no it is dreadful and not even 'slightly unique' if that is possible.
Amber is nice though.

Bowlersarm · 29/12/2014 09:38

Meadow is great.

Haven't seen the sopranos though.

Sophronia · 29/12/2014 12:32

The only one I like is Evie, although I prefer it as a nickname.
