DD2 is here and we can't decide on a name

DD2 arrived last week and we're still struggling to pick from our shortlist.

DD1 is Beatrice (Bea) and I'd like something similar in style, classic, lots of history.

Our final names for DD2 are:

Lucy
Tabitha
Rosalind
Sophie

But maybe we're missing something? All opinions and suggestions welcome.

Rosalind is lovely. How about Rosamund? It's true that Ros is a horrible shortening however.

Isolde as suggested above is lovely. I know an Yseult which I also like very much.

What about
Ellen
Miranda
Josephine

bluewisteria · 09/12/2014 19:01

Rosetta rather then Rosalind? Them you can have nn Rosa, Rosie, Etta

Hassled · 09/12/2014 19:04

Love Rosalind but the combination is a bit Shakespearian. Not that that's a bad thing.

Clara/Clarice?

TheBeanAndTheBee · 09/12/2014 19:11

Lucia
Luella
Josephine
???

Love Rosalind but hate Ros!!

LovedandLoyal · 09/12/2014 20:47

I like Tabitha the best.

ladygee · 10/12/2014 09:44

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. Many of the comments are exactly the reasons we're struggling to decide.

I think the Roz nickname puts me off Rosalind, Sophie and Lucy don't feel quite enough. Which I guess leaves Tabitha but I'm not in love with it like I was (and am) with Beatrice.

I love Emmeline and Catherine but they are too close to family members.

Other names that were on our longer list keep coming back into discussion are:

Rose (but it doesn't work with our short, plain surname), maybe Rosalie instead?
Aurelia
Alexandra (not sure on nicknames)
Olivia (on the list for Dd1 and 2 but it is so popular)

I quite like Harriet and Arabella but DH would need convincing.

Who knew naming a second daughter would be so difficult!

Matilda is a very historic name that sounds great with Beatrice or Mary also steeped in history

Clueing4looks · 10/12/2014 09:59

I love Annabell and Clarice, both sound lovely with Beatrice.

My sister is a Josephine and doesn't let us shorten it. It's one if those names that suit all ages.

LuannDelaney · 10/12/2014 10:07

If I had a new dd I'd call her Isobel Elizabeth.
Izzie Lizzie.
I like your names, have you considered Frances or Winifred?

LuannDelaney · 10/12/2014 10:09

Lexi is a nn for Alexandra.

Angelto5 · 10/12/2014 10:11

My nan was Florence Beatrice. I think those names go nice together & have the same vibe/era about them.

Also love
Evangeline
Isobelle
Alana
Elizabeth
Victoria

ScrambledEggAndToast · 10/12/2014 10:21

Lucy would have been DSs name so that's my favourite Grin They are all lovely choices though.

Sleepyfergus · 10/12/2014 10:31

We found naming dd2 hard too. We knew we'd found the perfect name for dd1 so it's hard to find something equally perfect iykwim

But we settled on Claudia (pro Claw-dia) which we love and it really suits dd2. Get lots of comments about what a lovely and unusual name it is, not that commonly used I don't suppose we shorten it to Clo which is quite sweet although a lot of people think her full name must be Chloe.

Good luck, hope you find something soon!

CrispyFern · 10/12/2014 13:27

I don't like Bea and Tabby (Ta-bea).

I like Lucy, Rose, Rosalind, and Alexandra from your lists. I think Rose goes fine with short surnames!

Notmeagain1 · 10/12/2014 13:35

I like Mackenzie nn Kenzie

Good luck choosing. Very difficult decision to make.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 10/12/2014 13:41

Eugenie? ..... wait that's been done before. Nice combination though. Smile

Florence, Francesca [Ches for short], Clementine [Clem and Bea has a nice ring to it]
If you are not sure about Clementine watch "The Gathering Storm". Clemmie is Winston Churchill's wife and I defy anyone not to have warm fuzzy feelings about the name when it ends.

TempsPerdu · 10/12/2014 13:47

I love Tabitha - one of my favourite names - but I'm not a fan of the nickname Tab/Tabby. Think I'd opt for Kit instead (going with the cat connection!) were I to ever use it. Also really like Alexandra.

Rosalind is pretty, but like others I really dislike the Ros shortening. How about Rosanna?

Best of luck with your final decision!

Selks · 10/12/2014 14:03

Eloise
Madeleine
Dorothea

IShallCallYouSquishy · 10/12/2014 14:03

Tabitha.

It's one of the names I wanted if DC2 was a girl. (He wasn't Smile)

minipie · 10/12/2014 14:07

Beatrice and Elinor
Beatrice and Marianne
Beatrice and Annabel
Beatrice and Cecily
Beatrice and Alicia
Beatrice and Evangeline
Beatrice and Serena
Beatrice and Imogen
Beatrice and Sylvia
Beatrice and Hermione
Beatrice and Lucia

minipie · 10/12/2014 14:07

Oh and Vivian

fruitpastille · 10/12/2014 14:11

Nicknames for Alexandra
Alex
Lexie
Ally
Xandra
Sacha (Russian)
Ola (polish)
We're unsure too so using the full name till she is bigger! Only slightly annoying thing is people mishearing and thinking she is a boy. And a surprising number are unsure of the name and think it is Alexandria.

ShumbTucker · 10/12/2014 14:15

Beatrice and Evelyn?
Beatrice and Martha?

Sophronia · 10/12/2014 14:19

Rosalind or Tabitha.

Lulabellarama · 10/12/2014 14:19

Aurelia is gorgeous. Similar is Aurora?
How about Vivienne?
