Help me find a name like Alice

I love the name Alice – its classic, works for any age group and (I don’t think) too popular. DH on the other hand can’t get over the fact he knew an Alice at university who he, and most of his friends all had a fling with…

So, we have been trying to think of other girls names. On the shortlist are the following, but none of them are quite as good as Alice for me.

Abigail
Bridget
Emma
Imogen
Natasha
Eva

What do you think of the shortlist and can you think of any others?

I’m not keen on names ending in ‘y’.

Middle names are sorted and will be family names.

If it helps, our boy name shortlist is Matthew or Joseph.

How about Heidi?

summerlovingliz · 30/11/2014 15:33

Not keen on Bridget

summerlovingliz · 30/11/2014 15:34

Like Eva best Smile

Your list is very similar to ours - DH loved Alice but I wasn't so sure (similar reason to your DH's)

We also liked Elizabeth, Emma, Catherine, Rebecca

Imogen is nicest from your alternatives to Alice list imo. How about:
Esther
Harriet
Anna
Lydia
Juliet

Alex?

I like Imogen from the ones listed here.

Abigail - love it. Would have considered it but my sister and a cousin's child are both called it.
Bridget - it's ok. I've never met one.
Emma - nice enough but I can't get excited about it
Imogen - lovely
Natasha - love it. Would have considered it but a cousin's child is called it.
Eva - really like it.

I think I'd choose Natasha from your list.

Children I know with these names and Alice have sisters called:
Rebecca
Hannah
Chloe
Alyssa
Laura
Jennifer
Madeleine
Matilda
Isabella
Anna
Isla
Zia
Emily
Felicity

Love Alice. It's dd's middle name - and a family name. Shame you can't persuade DH but i understand!!

Other names that go well with it (but may be a bit more controversial) are:

Violet (but maybe too girly/not strong enough);
Eve (prefer the English 'Eve' to 'Eva', with more continental origins although still nice!)
Edith/Edie
Beatrice/Bea
Connie/Constance

As I said, probably rather marmite names - quite a few people won't like them!

BeginnerSAHM · 30/11/2014 17:17

Oh - and I love Iris by the way. Iris Murdoch is a very cool namesake...

ACardiganForCat · 30/11/2014 17:21

Miriam?
Martha?

thelmasmonkey · 30/11/2014 18:19

Would Alys change association for dh?

moxon · 30/11/2014 18:44

I like the suggestion of Heidi as being similar to Alice. Possibly connecting them because it was Heidi from Adelheid?

DancingSeagulls · 30/11/2014 18:49

How about Celia? (An anagram of Alice!)

MrsEricBana · 30/11/2014 18:54

I love Clara.

capercaillie · 30/11/2014 19:00

Ellen

DD is Alice - but she was nearly Ellen

Hannah also feels like a similar name.
