Help me find a name like Alice

I love the name Alice – its classic, works for any age group and (I don’t think) too popular. DH on the other hand can’t get over the fact he knew an Alice at university who he, and most of his friends all had a fling with…

So, we have been trying to think of other girls names. On the shortlist are the following, but none of them are quite as good as Alice for me.

Abigail
Bridget
Emma
Imogen
Natasha
Eva

What do you think of the shortlist and can you think of any others?

I’m not keen on names ending in ‘y’.

Middle names are sorted and will be family names.

If it helps, our boy name shortlist is Matthew or Joseph.

I have a friend called Alicja which is pronounced Aleetzya which I think is a lovely name.

Eleanor?

Scots Ailis or Ellis?

Alyssa, Alicia, Alison, Ellison, Alesha?

Ayleece?

Love Emma & Eva, but the latter is becoming increasingly popular.

Alice was on our shortlist & was also listed on our girls names for DS so you can tell we quite liked it. These were the other names we also had:
Emily (maybe Emilia if you don't like the 'y' ending?)
Bethan
Hannah
Alana
Alexandra
Eleanor
Jessica
Jenna

You may need to concede with the name Alice because it does have such a strong memory for your DH. There are many other beautiful names out there & you're bound to agree on something which will suit your little one.

Our girls name shortlist was

Alice
Betsy
Matilda
Isabelle
and
Cate (Catherine is a family name)

We went for Alice!

We loved Alice as well but it was too similar to a family name so we couldn't use it. Elise was our main alternative. Could you use Ryan?

Your shortlist is lovely, some fabulous choices. Our 2 week old DD is Hazel which has a similar feeling to Alice to me as well.

My name is Alice and over theatres has been misinterpreted as:

Elise
Eloise
Louisa
Laura
Ailsa
Elsa
Lucy
Ellen
Lisa
Alex
Gladys

Anna has a similar ageless/classless/timeless vibe.

My ds would have been Erica had he been a girl i think it has a similar feel to alice. Strong and feminine at the same time.

I'm seconding Seagulls suggestion of Celia, which is a lovely name, rarer than Alice, fits all ages and doesn't rhyme with Malice, which has always been one of my problems with Alice, as well as hopefully not having any 'dodgy' associations for your DH.

Lewis Carroll wrote 'Sylvie and Bruno" as well as 'Alice', my Mum had an Aunt Sylvie :)
