Hello everyone :) trying to come up with an outdoorsy sounding boys name. Our surname is James.

So far we have the following
Lake, Harbor, Finch and North.

Any opinions on those? or other suggestions

Thanks :D

tammytoby Orson is a bit of a stretch I grant you, but Orson = ursine = bear = outdoors! And a Tor is a rock formation. Smile

All the names are great and I love the idea of an 'outdoorsy' name, but my silly side can't help but be amused at this little boy turning out to be a lovely, shy, retiring bookworm who's allergic to grass (it happens). Shock

sprink, I am terrified of that! DS has an outdoorsy name. Its not come up on this thread yet (and I won't be sharing!) but it does worry me. However DH is very outdoorsy, so its more likely than not that DS will take up something in that vein as he'll be introduced to them at a very early age. There are a lot of other family members who also are very outdoorsy.

I love loads of these suggestions; its one of the best name threads I've seen in a while as a lot of the more traditional names which I get bored of.

That's why I took the risk and went for something I loved as I couldn't settle on anything else. I also teamed it up with a more traditional middle name, so if his name is a problem, he still has the choice to go by his middle name. I wish more people were brave enough to use the names they love rather than play it safe out of fear. I've been amazed at the number of people who have said they wished they had 'gone for it'.

Ironically though, one of the more traditional serious contenders we contemplated was Ezra which is associated with being 'the scribe'. This didn't work for us in the end because we felt it was unlikely to suit our son because of that.

My point here being, you could call your son anything and find an association which might not suit them.

I'm dying to know RedToothBrush's DS's name... I might PM you.....

I love these names too. DH and I are big outdoors lovers. My favourite name is Rowan but its been used bu a family member...

I love Sylvan meaning 'of the forest' and Cedar. Moss is great too, as is Ash.

How about Rowan? Sort of like the tree but an actual name.

Or Neil as in Neil Armstrong? You can't get more outdoorsy than space Grin

Glyn or Bryn.

Thank you so much for all the suggestions!! We have pretty much narrowed it down to Lake or Harbor but are thinking of using a middle name to break it up a bit :)

I'm voting for Estuary and Ragwort. In the same vein I'd suggest Bog and Deadly Nightshade.

Here is Lake James

Honestly, there are lots of great suggestions on this thread and it's your child, your choice (obviously!) but please don't make him sound like a place.

Munro.

Please don't call him something silly. He'll have this name for 90 years. Very boring to have people commenting on it every single time he says it for 90 years.............

Thegentlemonkey · 21/11/2014 19:26

I'd go for Falcon - outdoorsy & also the middle name of Captain Scott

Report
Hakluyt · 21/11/2014 19:29

But do, please consider what is would be like to be a spotty shy 11 year old who hadn't had his growth spurt yet starting secondary school called Falcon.
