Sorry, first timer posting on this topic but am(or maybe was!) strongly considering Toby for first son-to-be and have been reading the many Toby threads that seem to be around today! Certainly the name of the moment!

What puts me off more than anything is that it means penis in Scotland? have googled this and there are quite a few people who seem to confirm it!
I can't saddle a child with this name if it really is used in this way.
Do any other Scottish people confirm this?

My OH is born and bred Aberdeen/shire and he's never heard of it!

I grew up in Angus and I never heard it, ever! And believe me, I heard some crude stuff from the kids in the playground! Shock

I'm from Edinburgh and now live in Glasgow and I've never heard of this!

I've never heard that - Boaby yes, but not Toby.

Thanks everyone! What a response! And an entertaining and informative thread!

Seems Toby is getting a bit of a - ahem - bashing at the moment, for popularity and possible (at least in Dundee!) penis associations. I may seek out alternatives...
