We are having a girl and I'm finding names difficult. I have come up with this first name and middle name. Do you like it? Our last name begins with L and is one syllable. We would call her Josie for short.

It is very pretty and the nickname Josie is sweet. Just make sure you don't hate Jo because even if she doesn't choose to use it it is sort of inevitable some people will call her Jo at some point in her life.

I had a colleague called Jennifer who was forever battling against being called Jenny, I think the Jo names are the same thing, some people will always go for the nickname no matter how many times they are corrected.

DanyStormborn · 06/11/2014 16:38

I don't hate Jo, I just prefer Josie and Jo sounds a bit abrupt with our short last name, but I don't think I would be too bothered if she chose to go by Jo in later life.

I really like Josephine, like Josie and Sephie for nicknames

Sophronia · 06/11/2014 16:44

I like Josephine and Josie, but I'm not so keen on Cara. How about Clara instead?

Wishfulmakeupping · 06/11/2014 16:48

That is a lovely name really pretty and classic

SomeSunnySunday · 06/11/2014 16:50

Love it.

DanyStormborn · 06/11/2014 16:56

Thanks everyone. Sophronia I really like Clara but it doesn't sound great with our last name that begins with L. I'm not 100% on Cara but it seemed to go better with Josephine and our last name than anything else I could come up with.

Pretty!

Redtractorwontsleep · 06/11/2014 17:00

Lovely name! Love Josie as well!

magpiegin · 06/11/2014 17:07

Really lovely. Must remember it for any future girls we may have.

BlueStarsAtNight · 06/11/2014 17:12

I love Josephine, not so fussed on Cara but it does flow nicely.

Squtternutbaush · 06/11/2014 17:20

I don't Josephine/Josie but love Cara (although I may be biased)

Costacoffeeplease · 06/11/2014 17:33

Please don't call her Josephine, she'll get 'not tonight' for ever more

Foxbiscuitselection · 06/11/2014 23:32

Adore Josephine. Cara is a bit bland though

How about Josephine Tess

Foxbiscuitselection · 06/11/2014 23:33

Josephine Katherine

TheOldestCat · 06/11/2014 23:35

Love it. We have Josephine Clare, known as Josie.

TheWhispersOfTheGods · 06/11/2014 23:40

Costa what even is that? I've known a fair few Josephines (at school and older) and never heard that!

Josephine is lovely, Cara was slightly ruined for me by an idiot at uni but is nice if you didn't know her! i see no issues whatsoever with Clara though, I've just made DH look at me like Hmm trying out Josephine Clara and it sounds fine with them all - no idea obvs what your actual name is but i don't think the Cl sounds odd followed by an L name, if you prefer Clara.

Costacoffeeplease · 06/11/2014 23:52

Am I the only one who's heard 'not tonight Josephine'? Really?

TheWhisperingDeath · 07/11/2014 00:01

No, you're not Costa, but I don't think it's a reference that will get used THAT much, especially if Josie is to be used.

WrappedInABlankie · 07/11/2014 00:34

I'm a josephene. Don't do it please! Absolutely hate my name it's the name of an elderly woman imo. She'll be nn Jo from my experience (I've never been called josie) I prefer Clara very pretty much better Smile

Plus if she ever watched titanic she'll always get that "Josephene my flying Machine going up and up" Hmm

Costacoffeeplease · 07/11/2014 06:38

I think you'll find it does Whispering, it's just my middle name and I get it every time anyone finds out, so I refer to it as rarely as possible, like Wrapped, I hate it too

Well two of us who actually have it as part of our name hate it, I would just think 'poor kid'

Wishfulmakeupping · 07/11/2014 08:46

It's a shame people who have the name dislike it I've always thought what a great name when I'm introduced to one (rarely as its not very popular) but I've always thought it was a fab name. It was on the short list for dd but my oh vetoed it- so maybe its a marmite name?!
