Classical names not in vogue

Currently expecting a dd

I hate the idea of dd being one of many with her name, so any names in the top 100 are out.

I'm looking for classical names that are not currently in vogue.

Examples of names I like (but dh doesn't) are:

Dorothy
Beatrice
Rebecca

Any suggestions?

I'd like to hear more Susan, Diana (which is a gorgeous name, really, but I understand why UK people avoid it), Mary, Jane (except for kind of not because I want to use it and I don't want it to be popular), Laura, Helen, Lavinia (not sure if it's a real classic), Rebecca, Wilhelmina, Winifred.

I love Valerie. (Suspect am the only person who does, but I really love it.)

Helen
Louise
Claire
Rosemary
Elizabeth
Florence
Frances

girliefriend · 10/10/2014 21:22

Sylvia nn Sylvie?

I love Rebekah, I have a friend with the name spelt this way. I was tempted to use it for dd but really not keen on the nn Beckie so didn't in the end.

I know lots of Carolines in their 30s but agree it is due a revival, think it is a great name.

supermum54321 · 13/10/2014 08:27

Lucinda, Arabella, Francesca, Florence, Anabelle, Madeleine are all lovely names which aren't too popular.

eatyourveg · 13/10/2014 08:42

Anna, Mary, Grace and Imogen

froootbat · 13/10/2014 08:52

MrsPatMustard DD's middle name is Valerie Smile

Laura might not be fashionable at the moment, but it is so so common, where I am anyway! (Bane of my life!)

eatyourveg · 13/10/2014 11:34

Forgot to say Jennifer (Jenny)

Keepon

I love Alice, was my Grandmother's name and a very good school friend and is classic without being dated IMO. I would have used it as a middle name except my daughters' initials would have been S.A.D or L.A.D, not great.

I know far too many people in their 30s/40s called Claire but ti may be due a revival.

I prefer Mary to Maria having lived in Spain where Maria is extremely common.

Elizabeth is lovely with lots of potential nicknames.

Thank you for all the suggestions. There are lots that I like in there, but dh doesn't like any, apart from one name that is far too phonetically similar to dd1's name. So still stuck.

The only name we are left with is Florence, which is lovely, but too in vogue I think.
