Classical names not in vogue

fluffymouse · 06/10/2014 16:20

Currently expecting a dd

I hate the idea of dd being one of many with her name, so any names in the top 100 are out.

I'm looking for classical names that are not currently in vogue.

Examples of names I like (but dh doesn't) are:

Dorothy
Beatrice
Rebecca

Any suggestions?

marigold: was the question about whether certain names are due a revival? Hmm

The OP pertained to names that are classical but not currently on-trend.

While most of the names mentioned aren't very very popular (apart of Elizabeth and Florence), My children (5 and 8) have been in a class with a Ruth, Constance, Frances, Julia, Clementine, Christina and Marianne.

Louise is one of those names that are less used than they seem, it was every other girls middle name at school, I have a 13m Louise and was surprised to find how few (124) were registered last year.

bassingtonffrench · 06/10/2014 20:06

Wow, that's hardly any Louise's ! And it is such a lovely name

wattlegirl · 06/10/2014 21:00

I vote for -

Constance
Elizabeth
Frances
Jane
Prudence

I was at school with a Euphemia Clutterbuck; now there's a name due for a comeback.

baskingseals · 06/10/2014 21:22

Audrey

Marguerite

Veronica

Diana

Rosalind

I really like Dorothy, think Dotty would be a sweet nickname. Or even Dora.

Mobilette · 06/10/2014 21:23

Joan, Nora, Brenda, Audrey, Sylvia, Deborah, Caroline, Julia, Peggy, Doris, Marion, Myra, Bridget, Irene..... But whatever you choose, you can guarantee there'll be another one at school in 5 years. It's in the ether.

hollie84 · 06/10/2014 21:25

Try the Baby Name Wizard site and look for anything that has a flattish graph!

PetulaGordino · 07/10/2014 04:04

I interpreted the OP to mean classical rather than classic, so I was thinking Clytemnestra, Electra etc!

poppydaisy · 07/10/2014 07:03

Underused classics that are lovely:
Helena
Caroline
Louisa
Antonia
Dorothy
Theodora

Vintagejazz · 07/10/2014 13:54

There was a little girl on the television last night called Daphne.
It sounded quite nice.

MummyBeerest · 07/10/2014 14:03

Tricky.

Jane is hardly ever used anymore.

Or....

Veronica.

Marie.

Christine.

Cecile or Cecily?

Love Margot! Enid is great.

We have x2 boys. Had they been girls the names would have been Nora and Margot
