We were originally going with Laurel for our DD, but DH discovered this today and really likes it, but I'm a little unsure - what are MN's opinions?
He really likes the meaning of it and it does fit our family - it means horse trainer.

I'm not American, we just live here (only moved recently).

Hoping desperately that Rattas surname is Tuille.

I love those Noo Yoyk names. It looks like they've been made from the bottom of the Scrabble bag.

I have been sniggering (I know its not polite) but I've had ruch a rotten day...

But why, whyyyyy spell India like that? Or is it not pronounced like that? And as for Ratta? Please tell me Panzy is a boy.

Do people just try to find a name that no-one else has ever thought of, or a spelling that is truly unique (like their precious offspring)? Oh it makes you laugh sometimes.

I still remember little Tayzer (not sure about the spelling) being yelled for in the park by his mum 'oi, Tayzer, TAY-ZZZEEERRRRR, c'mere. I said COME 'ERE TAYZER.'. At first I thought she was calling a dog and was expecting a scary dog to come running.

Witty I'm kind of admiring of the way you are going along with this thread in the face of near-universal, yet friendly, derision. Hats off to you :)

I can add an extra consonant! I know a Jazmynn. She is three.

nicename · 08/10/2014 17:40

Awwww. I was hoping for a boy. Now that would be 'unique'.

squoosh · 08/10/2014 17:41

Ratta reminds me of that awful Chanson d'Amour song from the 1970's where the backing singers 'ratta-tat-a-tat' along cheesily to all the schmaltzy lyrics.

I really don't see the appeal of spelling Jasmine as Jazmyn or Jazmynn.

OK so written down it 'unique' but unless you pronounce it differently you are surely still one of however many kids in the class called Jasmine.

squoosh · 08/10/2014 17:48

A ratta-tat-a-tat.......

moxon · 08/10/2014 18:10

OP, I thought you were Welsh? Didn't you say something about Welsh names?

moxon · 08/10/2014 18:13

I presume little Allexxxis' mother wants her daughter to be a stripper? She could wear the Baylor jeerleading outfit as part of her repertoire!

MyGastIsFlabbered · 08/10/2014 18:25

How about Combi?

enormouse · 08/10/2014 18:40

Combi baylor boilor gast?

CheerfulYank · 08/10/2014 18:47

Baylor is meh. Not the worst name I've ever heard. I'm American though. :o

I also think of the little brother in Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood. Baylor Walker.

In my accent it is very definitely Bay-luR, not Bay-la.

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 08/10/2014 18:50

I am going to go against the grain and say that I like Baylor (bay-lor though, not bay-luh). It may not be a common name in the UK but I have met a fair few Baylors in Canada - it is a definite North American name.

Go for it! :)

moxon · 08/10/2014 18:54

Canadian, you say? Wink

MyGastIsFlabbered · 08/10/2014 19:31

No enor, short for combinarvester Grin

Please, please, please don't do this. I know it's the law to smile and say "how lovely/unusual" when told a new baby's name but there's no way I could stop myself from repeating incredulously, "Baylor? BAYLOR???" if a friend told me this was her child's name.
