We were originally going with Laurel for our DD, but DH discovered this today and really likes it, but I'm a little unsure - what are MN's opinions?
He really likes the meaning of it and it does fit our family - it means horse trainer.

Laurel is sounding great right now OP!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 06/10/2014 16:15

No, absolutely not Baylor. Names are an integral part of whom we are, she will not thank you at all for calling her that and I would imagine it would be changed by her in later years.

Laurel is somewhat better.

moxon · 06/10/2014 16:19

Are you having boy/girl twins? Goes well with Balonz.

BackforGood · 06/10/2014 16:21

Is this a ruse, to make 'Laurel' sound more appealing ? Wink

To me, 'Baylor' looks like there's been a typo when trying to Taylor or something.

Anotherchapter · 06/10/2014 16:22

It sounds made up - like half the names round here. I don't think people look to the future and think what the child is going to look like thirty years down the road with a strange name Confused

Bay leaf + Taylor = Baylor

Soonish · 06/10/2014 16:22

Poor Op. Sad

Laurel is nice.

fluffymouse · 06/10/2014 16:23

I agree it sounds like you couldn't decide between Bailey and Taylor.

Soonish · 06/10/2014 16:24

And on the tree theme what about Olive? You can put that in a ceramic pot, too.

Thurlow · 06/10/2014 16:25

I don't like it. But mainly I'd see it as a boys name.

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 06/10/2014 16:27

Laurel (or Lauren? ) is nice.

Bailey or Taylor not my taste but passable. Baylor, erm, isn't. Sorry

VeryStressedMum · 06/10/2014 16:27

I thought it was a name for a boy. I don't think you should call your dd that, however laurel is lovely.

GilbertBlytheWouldGetIt · 06/10/2014 16:27

NO.

edamsavestheday · 06/10/2014 16:29

when you say dh 'discovered' Baylor today - where?

Georgina1975 · 06/10/2014 16:31

Laurel is really lovely.

Do not like Baylor at all. It might be anglo-saxon in origin but it sounds made-up in contemporary terms. Also, I agree that it sounds like more of a male name.

Taylor is nice tho

HesterShaw · 06/10/2014 16:35

It's grim. Sorry.

HesterShaw · 06/10/2014 16:36

And sorry, forgot to say that yes, Laurel is the loveliest name in the world in comparison.

RonaldMcDonald · 06/10/2014 16:38

Baylor....mn is always the place to brighten my day
Do it

WittyUsername102 · 06/10/2014 16:39

And now I'm reconsidering Laurel Confused
I don't know where DH discovered it.

OP posts:
Floggingmolly · 06/10/2014 16:42

Wherever it was; he should bury it back there immediately and say no more about it...

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 06/10/2014 16:46

I only know it as a surname here... and its an unusual one for a surname!

moxon · 06/10/2014 16:47

Btw there was a Laurel thread just recently. Don't know if that was you, OP? But fwiw Laurel is fan.

moxon · 06/10/2014 16:47

*fab! Laurel is fab!

squoosh · 06/10/2014 16:48

I prefer Ylrbao as an anagram of Baylor.
