Help!! Difficult choice of boys names: Sean, Daniel or Balonz?

Dear MNers. Hoping you might all be able to help us out as we’re having real difficulty agreeing a name for DS due soon. For DD, we went 'rare'. Weren’t sure we were quite ready to find some ultra-weird name, but equally there are millions of Kates, Elizabeths and so ons.

For DD though, we’re thinking a much more traditional name, perhaps inspired by close friends/family. What are MNers’ thoughts on either Sean, Daniel or Balonz? Many thanks in advance!

Sistermoonshine

The fada is on the a as in Seán.
Your fada on the e would make the name sound like Shane.

OP, I think Bollox is a lovely name...

Grin proper cheered me up this thread! Please do it, you might start a wave of little babies called Balonz Smile

Flipwit, that would be great but the trouble is nobody outside of Surrey would be able to pronounce it.

That's the trouble with these hyper-regional names. Unless you live there (and always plan to) it's always a complete no-goer.

You do realise you've started a trend on MN, OP, don't you?
There is Balonz popping up all over the place!

Balonz seems to be a last name according to the inter web my sources. In Surrey and word wide.

This is brilliant. Roaring here, too.

There were, in fact, no children named Balonz born between 1916 and 2005 -- although there was one Balon and one Bhalon.

(there have been two with Bingo as a middle name and two with Wings as a middle name; it must now be a MN campaign to pair them off and persuade them to name a child Bingo Wings Lastname as a "family name")

I've never heard of the name Balonz before, but it's brilliant.

OP, please call your child Balonz!

Sean and Daniel are just dull in comparison!

My throat hurts from laughing Grin

Just think OP, if he's one of those babies born with really long nails, you could announce his birth with "Look at the talons on Balonz!"

Creeps sheepishly back into thread...

Wow, I guess Balonz really isn't as popular a name as I thought it was! Confused I'm surprised it's not appearing anywhere though - are people sure they are spelling it right? It's B - A - L - O - N - Z.

KatieKaye sorry, I think I'm too embarrassed to reveal DD's name now - if you all find Balonz so unusual, I dread to think what you'd think of her much rarer name!

Rarer than none since 1916!?

Report
ShadowStar · 02/10/2014 02:02

OP, given that you were mistaken about Balonz being a popular name, isn't it also possible that you're mistaken about your DD's name being rare? It may be more popular than you imagine?

So how do we account for the much admired Balonz from surrey if there are none born this century?

A: He's 110

B: It's not his real name. He's one of those people who has a nickname used so much that people assume it's his real name.

C: It's not his name at all. the op misheard years ago and it's just too akward or hilarious to correct her. He mutters 'FFS my name is Bill!!!!' when ever she leaves the room.

Op, could you please explain what led you to believe that Balonz was a popular name? I have friends named Humperdinck, Timtam and Vachina but I don't go around assuming those are popular names.

I can't stop laughing at Papa Lazarou saying balonz! hilarious! What is your dd's name then OP? I bet it is nowhere near as amusing as Balonz
