Help!! Difficult choice of boys names: Sean, Daniel or Balonz?

Dear MNers. Hoping you might all be able to help us out as we’re having real difficulty agreeing a name for DS due soon. For DD, we went 'rare'. Weren’t sure we were quite ready to find some ultra-weird name, but equally there are millions of Kates, Elizabeths and so ons.

For DD though, we’re thinking a much more traditional name, perhaps inspired by close friends/family. What are MNers’ thoughts on either Sean, Daniel or Balonz? Many thanks in advance!

LOL at OP asking earnestly 'where Balonz featured in recent years' Grin

if you can hear my voice above the tumbleweeds, OP, I would say that it probably comes in on the boys' list somewhere between Adolf and BingoWings. To clarify, somewhere rather south of both Daniel and Sean.

I vote Daniel. Or possibly BingoWings.

I cannot stop laughing at this.

How about Adolf Bingowings Balonz ?

Hi.

I actually used to know a man people called balonz. I think it was a last name not a christian name though. I think he was german or australian or something. He was a bit strange sometimes.

Pmsl at balonz being a traditional Surrey name.

"Don't pop the balloons, Balonz."

"Don't lose your balance, Balonz."

It's going to be tricky, but worth it.

Is that the Surrey with the fringe on top?

I like Daniel, but there are a lot of them about if that's an issue for you.

Sean's a perfectly good name but not one I'd use.

I'm assuming Balonz is a joke.

Having now located the full list of baby names for 2013 I can confirm op that it is not only outside the top 100 but not one baby was named Balonz last year! Maybe there's a reason for that - can you live with comments like the last 4 pages?!

Still not convinced it's not a wind up....

Theo,
Having mulled it over, and pondered Frensham, I've reached a decision.
On balonz, I'd go for Daniel.

OP even if you are genuine and do have a friend called Balonz, surely the fact you have (presumably) never met or even heard of another one would tell you it is not a traditional name in this country?

Here's where it's been in the baby name charts. You do have to get 3 named in a year to feature, so there may be some Balonz flying under the radar.

I find it rather hard to believe that OP has never noticed that friend Balonz has a peculiar name that is shared by precisely no-one she has ever met and that it never struck her as slightly peculiar.

However, willingly suspending disbelief, why not change it slightly to Baloo? It not only looks and sounds much nicer it is an actual name (albeit of a bear). And because, quite frankly, one Balonz is more than enough.

KatieKaye · 01/10/2014 20:42

PS - am now wondering what DD is called. OP said her name was "rare" yet she thinks Balonz is "traditional".

I'm liking Balonz, as mentioned above it's not over used so no worries that in his class he will be one of six called Balonz, it's got some good nn possibilities such as Bal, Onzo, Ballo, Lonzy.
It's a name with a bit of a kick, and floats off the tongue easily.
It passes the high court judge test too, eg Judge Balonz Gladstone.

Best of all it has its own song, "99 red Balonz" !

Just love saying it loud and proud
"Balonz" Grin

Great word
