Help!! Difficult choice of boys names: Sean, Daniel or Balonz?

Dear MNers. Hoping you might all be able to help us out as we’re having real difficulty agreeing a name for DS due soon. For DD, we went 'rare'. Weren’t sure we were quite ready to find some ultra-weird name, but equally there are millions of Kates, Elizabeths and so ons.

For DD though, we’re thinking a much more traditional name, perhaps inspired by close friends/family. What are MNers’ thoughts on either Sean, Daniel or Balonz? Many thanks in advance!

Balonz?

Is that what The Fonz was dubbed into when Happy Days was shown in France?

ColdCottage · 01/10/2014 00:12

Balonz, not many things make me giggle out loud on here but the discussion of this name has.

I hope it's not a deeply personal family name for the OP. Surely not, must be a typo...

minkah · 01/10/2014 00:13

Their surname could be MiHead.

It's possible.

TheoGB · 01/10/2014 00:36

Oh MNers, I'm so embarrassed!! Blush

This is my first ever thread on MN. I've been busy coding all evening, so I just thought I'd check in and see if anyone had replied and I seem to have caused a stir. Blush

You're obviously all much more familiar with baby name trends than I am. One of my oldest (and, to be honest, most-admired) friends is called Balonz and it had just never occured to me it was such an unusual name. I just found a list of the most popular boys names for 2012, but it's only top 100 and apparently it's not in there (I can't find a 2013 list though?) so maybe someone could tell me where it featured in recent years? As I said, we're really keen to have a more traditional name than DD's - I guess it seems some prefer Daniel for that, although Balonz is clearly growing on some of you! Confused

Where is your admired friend from, Theo?

TheoGB · 01/10/2014 01:16

minkah Originally? Surrey I think.

He certainly talks about Frensham Ponds a lot.

Yes. That's the particular area I associate with the name Balonz.

Frensham Ponds is a topic to which one can endlessly return, indeed.

ShadowStar · 01/10/2014 01:27

Can't link at the minute, but if you google 'ons baby names 2013' you should find the official office for national statistics webpage which lets you download an excel spreadsheet ranking all baby names given in England and Wales in 2013. (Provided that at least 3 babies had the same name)

If you look on that, it should give an idea of how popular Balonz currently is.

But sorry, OP, I don't think it counts as a traditional name in the UK.

Valpollicella · 01/10/2014 01:47

Er. in the naicest way possible, Balonz won't be featured anywhere in the top 500

Bless you Grin

So, a traditional Surrey name then. Well I never. I must say, this has been most illuminating. And entertaining. Balonz is now on my autospell so the iPad has accepted its authenticity.

Balonz eh? Balonz, Balonz, Balonz...

CheeseEqualsHappiness · 01/10/2014 06:47

Oh my word, it's real!? Well who knew....

AvonCallingBarksdale · 01/10/2014 06:54

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 01/10/2014 06:55

Balonz isn't a name. If you google it literally nothing comes up. I call wind up!

AvonCallingBarksdale · 01/10/2014 06:55

CoteDAzur · 01/10/2014 07:22

patienceisvirtuous · 01/10/2014 08:20

The world definitely needs a Baby Balonz. It gets my vote too :o

smokeandglitter · 01/10/2014 08:28

As far as I can see balonz is not a name and must be an autocorrect mistake?

smokeandglitter · 01/10/2014 08:31

Oh just saw this page. Surrey?

Perhaps your friends parents migrated to earth from an unknown planted where a helium filled god is worshipped?

smokeandglitter · 01/10/2014 08:31

Planet* auto

WelshWereRabbit · 01/10/2014 08:42

Thanks to this thread I am going to arrive at work with mascara all over my face. Man on train next to me must think I'm a nutter.

Baby Balonz does have a certain ring to it ...

Hakluyt · 01/10/2014 08:44

Don't be silly. Traditional Surrey names are things like Ptolemy and Horatio and Tristan.

Only1scoop · 01/10/2014 08:45

Balonz....is it pronounced as the French for Balls!
Priceless Grin

daisygatsby · 01/10/2014 10:05

brightened up my morning no end - thanks OP!

daisygatsby · 01/10/2014 10:06
