Something better than Lucy

So far our DD will be Lucy Harriet (mn for MIL) but I'm not 100% convinced that it is THE name for her.

We have DSs E lijah and S ebastian. I tend to like soft vowel names in girls' names. Surname starts with L rhymes with what.

Other names I like which I won't/can't use are:
Sophia
Ophelia
Elodie
India/Indira (nn Indie) - DH said NOOOOOOOOOOO
Hermione
Francesca (Fran sounds too harsh when I say it)

Other possible mns:
Willow
Florence (family name on my side)

I'm open to foreign names as we have plenty of foreign heritage between us (french, scottish, czech, romany gypsy, nz maori)

Any suggestions for me to add to the list please?

If you like Lucy how about Lucia?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 03/09/2014 15:06

Leilani (Hawaiian, means 'heavenly garland)
Liliana (Italian, 'lily')

HerRoyalNotness · 03/09/2014 15:10

I do like Lucia

Pretty names donkey but too many L's with our surname

I like Sera as a nn for Serafina, but wonder if that's too frilly, not keen on overly frilly names.

Chessie is a softer NN for Francesca

WhispersOfWickedness · 03/09/2014 16:11

We had Lucy on the list too, but it just didn't seem quite right.

MarmiteChocolate · 03/09/2014 16:33

Lorelei?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 03/09/2014 17:06

As one of your sons' names is Biblical I was wondering about
Abigail (Abbie/Abby)
Hannah
Martha

HerRoyalNotness · 03/09/2014 17:16

Some good suggestions there.

Names ending in L are tricky with last name, and when I say hard names, like Martha, Hannah (both of which I like), they sound too harsh against the last name. I have to be wary of going to far the other way also and avoiding frillyness. I think that's why I'm not sold on Lucy Harriet. Harriet sounds too hard. Maybe it's the mn that's not working.

Lucy / Lucia Willow
Lucy / Lucia Florence

I still like Sophia, but a friend has named her DD1 that, and it's very popular. It was DS1s girl name we picked 7yrs ago, so I guess I wouldn't use it for that reason too. DS2s girl name was Ophelia, which would probably have been a mistake with surname (i feel you a lot Grin)

I think Lucy is perfect as it is.

The middle name is never really used, to be honest, so I wouldn't worry about it sounding harsh.

AberdeenAngusina · 03/09/2014 18:27

I love Lucy Harriet.

Lucy Willow sounds too close to pussy willow.

HerRoyalNotness · 03/09/2014 18:40

aberdeen GOOD point! Grin

Francesca (Fran sounds too harsh when I say it)

If the only problem with Francesca (one of my favourites names) is Fran as a nn, what about:

  • Frankie as a nn
  • Cesca as a nn

I also like Lucy. If you are not certain it is 'the one', now about Lucy as a nn for:

  • Lucinda
  • Lucia
  • Eloise
KateShmate · 03/09/2014 18:47

I love Serafina and don't think it's too frilly at all! Think I prefer Lucia to Lucy too, then she has the option to have Lucy as a nn when she's older?

Aradia · 03/09/2014 18:50

What about Lilia? Not sure if the correct spelling but have met a couple of little girls with that name and think it's lovely. Smile
