Something better than Lucy

So far our DD will be Lucy Harriet (mn for MIL) but I'm not 100% convinced that it is THE name for her.

We have DSs E lijah and S ebastian. I tend to like soft vowel names in girls' names. Surname starts with L rhymes with what.

Other names I like which I won't/can't use are:
Sophia
Ophelia
Elodie
India/Indira (nn Indie) - DH said NOOOOOOOOOOO
Hermione
Francesca (Fran sounds too harsh when I say it)

Other possible mns:
Willow
Florence (family name on my side)

I'm open to foreign names as we have plenty of foreign heritage between us (french, scottish, czech, romany gypsy, nz maori)

Any suggestions for me to add to the list please?

If you like Elijah, how about Eilidh? Gaelic name pronounced ay-lee. Might be a bit difficult to pronounce depending on where you live

I went to school with a girl called Lucilla. Pretty name, could be Lucy for short?

I remember travelling with a girl called Lucy Harriet in the nineties and when I saw her name on her passport I had name envy! I still love the names, very classic. Lucia Harriet is great also.

still I was going to use the French spelling, funnily enough I just bought a stage 1 car seat crom a French expat returning home and her baby was called Lucie! Maybe it's meant to be.

Thanks for all the further suggestions, I'm going to put name labels on the fridge and play around with combinations. There are so many great names out there and as this will be our last, really want to pick the best one we can .

How can you NOT call your daughter, Lucy [surname edited out by MNHQ]?! Other than it sounds like a porn star.....

Report
HerRoyalNotness · 05/09/2014 03:17

Hmm. Might as well give her every advantage to pick a career

Although Lucretia [surname removed by MNHQ] would be even better.

Odd that you'd spell the surname with two Ts. I've asked MN to edit your post, it's not my last name but is my DC

I'm putting this out with kindness. My son nearly got the most ridiculous name ever when you put it all together. But, at 9 months plus 1 week post partum, I thought it was ok! I look back now and THANK GOD DH said no!

WTF? You put the surname out there the minute you said it rhymed with What but started with an L! I was just expressing the first thing that came in my head.

FYI Lhat doesn't make any sense.....

TheWholeoftheSpoon there's a difference between reading to yourself "ah, her surname is obviously X" and typing it out so it could turn up in the results of a google search.

I agree with those who say if you like Francesca, use it and either stick to the whole thing (not every name ends up shortened) or use Chesca/Chessie/Frankie as a short.

Sorry BUT that's bollocks. You're presuming that every single person who reads the thread is on the same page as you. I, and everyone else on MN, can type whatever we like. So, if you're asking if you think a name, that is going to actually out you, is a good name...then don't bloody ask on the internet!

Whoa, defensive much?!

I think it's a basic courtesy not to type out someone's name when they've given clues to it in order to add context to their name choices. If you're not "on the same page", so be it. It's no skin off my nose, I was simply pointing out (politely, without swearing) how there's a difference.

sign I wouldn't mind a girl version of ptolemy

There is an unwritten rule of forums whole that you don't out people, or use real names. I included the clue to it, as it's easier to see why I wouldn't use certain names with the surname, for instance I liked Noah for a boy, but it just doesn't work.

Most people would spell it a) with one T, or b) ask me to spell it, as they seem to have great difficulty with such a simple name

Anyhoo, lots of good names to consider on here, thanks all who made suggestions.

Update:

We ended up going in a different direction and named our very early arriving Dd (23w+4d) India Willow

She is holding her own in the NiCU and doing as well as a baby her size can be expected
