What do you think of Faye? It has come up as a strong contender from DH for DC1 due in Nov so I am umming and ahhing about it.

Middle name will be Joanne, surname is 3 syllables starting with McF.

Thanks!

Pretty. I like it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/08/2014 23:24

I really like it but probably more as a mn than a first name.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/08/2014 23:25

Just seen surname too - Faye McFsomething might be a bit of a mouthful?

User54565644578 · 21/08/2014 23:26

I've never been keen, mostly as it sounds like fey, a word with several meanings, a couple not very pleasant.

What about Freya or Fiona (nn Fi) if you like the F sound with your surname.

barmybunting · 21/08/2014 23:30

I am wondering about the surname combo too Remus. On initial thoughts, it sounds like it might be a bit 'f' heavy, but the stress on syllables is on the end syllable of our surname so the F part isn't very heavy if that makes sense, so when I say it, I think it sounds ok to my ears. If put with something like Freya though, so Freya McF, it doesn't work I don't think. Sorry, probably sounds batty trying to explain it but I don't want to show full surname on here.

:)

I like it much more than Freya.

thoughtsescapeme · 21/08/2014 23:32

I think it's beautiful especially with your McF surname

barmybunting · 21/08/2014 23:32

Sorry Hooray, cross posts there, great minds think alike with Freya :). I love it, but it sounds very breathy with our surname which Faye doesn't too me for some reason. Fiona is equally lovely, but we have 2 in our family already so are avoiding it.

Thanks, it is useful to hear what other people think Smile.

Agree with hooray sounds like Fey, wishy washy.

Quite like modern hippy name Fable though but realise that might be a bit marmite!

How about Fearne, Farrah or Faith?

burgatroyd · 22/08/2014 05:24

Legionofboom · 22/08/2014 08:14

I'm not at all keen on Faye. I feel it lacks substance. I also agree with Hooray about it sounding life 'fey'

Freya is nice though.

florascotia · 22/08/2014 08:44

Fay or Faye was originally short for 'Faith', but it's become a name in its own right. I rather like it.

But you might perhaps like to consider Faith with nn Faye? That would get rid of any 'wishy-washy' connotations. But 'fey' doesn't have those for me, anyway. I think 'magical' or 'otherworldly'.

Rockinghorse123 · 22/08/2014 09:30

I love Faye. I think it's classic and it's not overused so unlikely to be 3 in a class.

It's was my grannies maiden name and a strong contender if I ever have a DD.

Marnierose · 22/08/2014 09:51

It's on my list of girls names. I love the meaning. Just go with what you love. I would never use Freya as far too popular. Faith is also very pretty.

Lunastarfish · 22/08/2014 10:57

My sister is called Faye. She hates it btw but I think that was because we knew 3 other Fayes and they were a bit rough unfortunately.

I think Faye Joanne is a beautiful name and I like alliterative names. It is rather uncommon but classic so go for it.

Kantha · 22/08/2014 15:04

Sounds lovely and balances the longer surname out.

I would consider it myself except that it rhymes with our surname sounds a bit daft.

MrsBeeBeeBee · 22/08/2014 15:30

I love the name Faye. Was my 2nd fav choice so is my daughters middle name. although I have joked to my husband if we have another daughter I'm using it again!

pilates · 22/08/2014 18:04

No sorry not keen

Montsti · 23/08/2014 19:50

I'm not keen at all. It sounds very 80s and a bit drippy a la Freya...

Happy36 · 23/08/2014 19:51

I love the name Faye, although I prefer the spelling "Fay".

I know a Fay who is lovely, which makes me like the name even more.

ChickenMe · 23/08/2014 23:37

I love it. It's pretty but not frilly. It seems quite a serene name.

temporaryusername · 24/08/2014 03:01

I agree with Legion it lacks substance. It just fades away to nothing, it's just a tiny wispy name. Sorry to be blunt.

KoalaDownUnder · 24/08/2014 13:53

I strongly agree with the 'lacks substance' comments.

It makes me think of a pale, wispy girl with a weak chin and no eyelashes.
