Elsa or Elise?

Hi all, I'm new to this - expecting first one - and interested to hear opinions. We don't know whether we're having a boy or girl and names are a hot topic!

Our boy's name is pretty much decided (Alfred - and Fred for short, rather than Alfie).

Elsa has long been our favourite for a girl but I'm a bit put off by the recent Frozen association and Elise is now a possible alternative. The thing is that Elsa goes better with our surname (which has an 'ee' sound in it, as Elise does, so I think they might sound a bit matchy when put together) but just wondering whether there will be a significant rise in Elsa's popularity (only time will tell!) - plus without sounding snobby I really don't want people to assume we chose it because of the film! I know you shouldn't care...but...

Any thoughts appreciated :)

Elsa is everywhere since Frozen. It will be very much linked to 2014.

I really dislike Elsie though... so wishy washy. Elsa is better but I really wouldn't go there.

Squirm · 05/08/2014 19:05

Oh just noticed it's Elise, not Elsie. Go for Elise!

ruby1234 · 05/08/2014 19:06

What about Ella?

vivie24 · 05/08/2014 19:12

Hi, thanks for thoughts so far. Yes, the super-current connection is what I don't like the idea of! Darn Disney...

Not keen on Ella as had a family dog of that name and it also makes me think of the Rihanna Umbrella song!

Ooh this is going to be tricky if baby is a girl...

LOVE Elsa, but everyone's going to assume it's coz of Frozen.

Elise or Elsie are nice.

RainbowB7 · 05/08/2014 19:15

Elise! So lovely and not very often used

zazie7 · 05/08/2014 19:17

Elsa is lovely and was on the rise anyway before Frozen, up to 177 in 2012, 2013 figures are out later this month. It's not like it was unheard of before the film so it would be a bit strange if people assumed that was why you had chosen it.

Elise is really nice too so I don't think you can go wrong with either choice but if Elsa goes better with the surname and has been your favourite for ages I would go with that.

ashesandfire · 05/08/2014 19:17

Elise is lovely
I'm not really a fan of Elsa though tbh.

Imsosorryalan · 05/08/2014 19:19

Elisa? Pronounced lisa with an E in front

Kantha · 05/08/2014 19:22

I prefer Elise, but in my circle there are so many "E" names amongst the children I know that I would look for a different letter.

I know an
Elsa
Ella
Esme
Elodie
Eva (and Ava and Ada)
Evie
Evelyn
Ellie
Elsie
Edie
They are all beginning to blur. Confused

Whenwillwe3meetagain · 05/08/2014 19:50

I know an Elyse - more interesting spelling perhaps?

Purpleflamingos · 05/08/2014 19:53

I know an Élyse.

Erin
Eriana
Evanna
Emma
Emmie

Elsa is too associated with frozen atm

whatsagoodusername · 05/08/2014 19:55

Alyssa? Sort of similar...

scratchandsniff · 05/08/2014 20:11

Just come on to say I feel your pain. 21month DS was going to be Elsa if a girl. Just found out I'm expecting again, and still love Elsa but feel like we couldn't use it if this one is pink because of frozen and the fact that there will be loads of Elsa's. Bit gutted really as I've liked it for years.

What about Anna?

badtime · 05/08/2014 20:11

Elke?
(el-keh)

Thanks all - it's been really interesting hearing your thoughts and advice. One thing that I have realised by reflecting on your comments and suggestions is that I really do love Elsa! DH does too and he is much less concerned about the film connection, making the point that it will be quite a temporary thing over the course of a lifetime...which is of course true.

Baby not due until early 2015 either so still time for the Frozen juggernaut to slow a little. Or for us to change our minds! I'm just a bit of a forward planner :)

Love Elsa. Loved it long before that stupid film!

My little girl is Elisa

LBNM19 · 16/08/2014 23:18

If you like Elsa go for it I'm sure people are not even going to think of that by this time next year. Elise is lovely to xx

AliciaBotty · 16/08/2014 23:30
