Welsh name suggestions please

We have Alys already and number 2 is unexpectedly on the way.

We like Seren and I like Meredith but was surprised to see this is a boy's name in Wales (according to behindthename.com).

Are there any Welsh people out there who can confirm this and maybe suggest alternatives?

Also, can you suggest any boys names we might like?

I can just imagine DH's face if I suggest Taliesin! We struggled with boy's names last time actually. Eventually decided on Harvey but I've gone off its bit.

Love Eleri, Megan, Carys and Manon.

Oh and Teilo. Not sure how popular that would be if you're not a fan of Taliesin though. Is your husband welsh as well?

MrsDavidBowie · 03/08/2014 18:06

Delyth?

Nye (Aneurin) for a boy

Morfydd
Luned. For girls

Howaboutthisone · 03/08/2014 18:07

I know an aneurin who goes by Nye as do lots of aneurins I think. Although that might fall into same category as taliesin with your dh!

funnyoldonion · 03/08/2014 18:21

I like Eira pronounced Aa Ra it means snow and also Bronwen but by far the most beautiful one is Carys I'd use it if I had another! I'm welsh and Meredith is all girl to me! X

Actually neither of us are Welsh but we have friends there and have spent many happy holidays in Wales. A lot of the names are beautiful but I think they might sound a bit odd as we live in England.

I love your suggestions Hestershaw (also love Hester!)

The girl's names are so much easier, aren't they?

Anwen, Tegwen and Eluned are lovely too.

Better be a girl or we're stuffed! Grin

I have an Idris and currently 36 weeks with number 2 - if it's a boy he will be called Geraint. If it's a girl though we're calling her Martha which won't help your welsh name quest!

wingcommandergallic · 03/08/2014 18:59

I live in Essex. There's no way on this earth I'm giving my child a name with "th" in it!

reup · 03/08/2014 19:09

And I think you have to avoid dd to as that's th in Welsh. Or something similar - welsh speakers on here will know.

motherofanearlyfouryearold · 03/08/2014 19:15

Eirwen means snow white in welsh. Said Aye win!

junemami · 03/08/2014 19:15

Is Cadi pronounced Kay-dee or Caddy?

How popular is Seren? Is it seen as a bit unusual or not?
