I am due in two weeks and we are still struggling especially for a girls name. Dd is Mathilde and we don't know the sex of the new baby. Dh is French and I am English so needs to work in both languages.

Boys

Theodore ( theo)
Gustave (gus)
Malo
Leon

Girls

Clara
Noemie
Alice
Josephine
Margot
Cleo
Sylvie
Eliza

Any ideas? Are Margot and Mathilde too similar?

Amelie? Camille? Juliette?

For boys, my DS suggests Hugo. (He's seven and reading the Invention of Hugo Cabaret :o )

I really like all of your names actually. I think my favorites would be Josephine and Gustave.

I really like your names too. I love Sylvie (ours will be Sylvie if a girl), and Gustave is fab. I wouldn't know how to pronounce Malo.French names are lovely, I've been looking at lists the last few days to see which (as an English couple with no French ancestry) we could get away with! I also like Clement and Laurent.

beccajoh · 02/08/2014 07:10

My friend lives in France and has a Joshua and everyone copes fine with it.

Surfsup1 · 02/08/2014 09:29

My DS1 goes to school with a little French Mona. She's super-cute and her name really suits her.

goldenbaygirl · 02/08/2014 10:04

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Mona is very cute. Malo is pronounced mah-low. It's our top contender for a boy at the moment

Lovely names OP. I like Clara and Leon best.

To me, Laurent & Clement are v French... I can't imagine those going well in an English accent personally... Depends where you live I guess!

Castlemilk · 02/08/2014 11:28

Malo is good, but Gustave is excellent!!

Josephine is my avourite from your girl options - so classic, lovely name, lots of nn options (Jo, Jojo, Posy).

hellymelly · 02/08/2014 11:32

I like Margot and Matilde, but I have two dds with M names. I tried to avoid it, but dd2 was 6 weeks old and un-named, nothing else suited her and worked with her middle name and our surname.
All your choices are lovely, the only thing I would say is that I know a Noemie and she gets called Naomi all the time as british people seem to find Noemie confusing. All the others work well here I think. Josephine is so pretty and very under used.

GreatAuntDinah · 02/08/2014 14:18

We very nearly had a Malo, except it doesn't work in Spanish where the ILs live. I wouldn't use Sylvie, it's very middle-aged.

Amandine? I met a lovely Amandine recently.

(I have a Mathilda - not French, we were just humouring FIL by incorporating Hilda - family name Wink).

Floop · 02/08/2014 23:25
