Someone I know has gone with this. I'm afraid I initially thought she was joking and may not have conducted myself very well but actually I'm starting to like it.

Oh no. Not for me.

sonlypuppyfat · 21/07/2014 22:41

What's the matter with people do they meet really old people and think what lovely names for my tiny baby.

MilkandCereal · 21/07/2014 22:47

Noooooo.Noooo.nooo and no. It's dreadful.

squoosh · 21/07/2014 23:19

It's a greedy little piggy's name.

Horace is horrendous.

TheSydenhamSet · 21/07/2014 23:23

My dad's nickname for my brother when we were kids was Horace de bussey jones. Had no connection with my brother's name or suchlike. Just one of those things.

Don't. Just please don't. It's horrid! And belongs to the realm of affectionate nicknames at the most!

ChanelNo19 · 21/07/2014 23:25

that's dreadful. you have to be joking.

some of those old men names are starting to sound 'cool' like Bruce, Victor, Howard. But Horace reminds me of a big walrus type man.

PinkSquash · 21/07/2014 23:27

No, no, no.

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/07/2014 23:29

It is truly awful.

DramaAlpaca · 21/07/2014 23:31

Dreadful name.

crazylady321 · 21/07/2014 23:44

Aw I couldnt call a baby that. One of those names that should probilly be left in the era.

Sorry to hyjack but I had something similar last week talking to a mum at school who is also pregnant she had told me they were choosing Reggie but her husband wanted him to have the middle name CYRIL I accidently laughed and she wasnt best pleased had to appologise next day she came upto me and she said ive told him we are deffinately not having it as a middle name, and she thanked me for giving her the motivation to tell him she hated it.... How bad did I feel though :(

Sophronia · 21/07/2014 23:54

Horatio is marginally better.

EugenesAxe · 22/07/2014 00:10

...Wimp
...Goes Skiing

If he did ever go skiing I'd piss myself, and only 70s/80s born geeks would know why.

It shortens to whore. Saying all that, I reckon it could work for the right person.

NormanTheForeman · 22/07/2014 00:12

Wallace, Horace and Elbridge... three brothers in my family tree. Smile

florascotia · 22/07/2014 09:09

Was also just going to say what about Horatio? Didn't hold Nelson back...

burgatroyd · 22/07/2014 09:36

Horatio is great! I feel like grunting when I say Horace!

MilkandCereal · 22/07/2014 10:18

Horatio is a great name.

Horace is a comedy name.

1lov3comp5 · 22/07/2014 10:20

Sounds too much like horrers to me...not a fan at all!

squoosh · 22/07/2014 13:55

Horatio is SO, and I mean SO, much better than Horace.

singersgirl · 22/07/2014 16:01

I don't much like Horace as it sounds too much like 'horrid' for me, and also visually reminds me of 'grimace'.

But to the poster who said 'Do people meet really old people and think what lovely names for my tiny baby', may I point out that, if all goes well, you are not just naming a 'tiny baby'? You are in fact naming a child, a teenager, a young man or woman, a middle-aged man or woman and an old person.

Names fall in and out of fashion. All old people were once babies and then little boys and girls and then young adults. Little boys and girls will, if they're lucky, be old people.

And why shouldn't I meet a wonderful old person and want to name my lovely baby after them? Being wonderful and inspirational is not the prerogative of the young and fashion-led.

Trondheim · 22/07/2014 16:07

Agree with singers girl and the pp who said Horace goes skiing

Viviennemary · 22/07/2014 16:11

It's dire. It's one of these names when people think how on earth could anybody call a child that.

Pangaea · 22/07/2014 16:16

I really like it.

ElizabethMedora · 22/07/2014 16:16

I love Horatio.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/07/2014 16:17

I rather like it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/07/2014 16:17

But prefer Maurice.
