I ask as my son is called Daniel and my husband keeps pointing out that it's often a chavkid name. I love it and always have. I wanted a baby boy called Daniel since I was a kid myself and don't really care what DH says but thought I would canvas opinion...

No it isn't. It's a lovely classic name and doesn't date. Dan, Danny, Daniel, plenty of options. I like it

misscph1973 · 08/07/2014 13:26

I certainly hope not as my DS is called Daniel! I do think it is a very common (in the sense of popular) name, when DS was little, there was 3 other Daniels in our play group, and all 4 were of different nationalities.

I always thought of Daniel of a name with few connotations, positive or negative. My sister's first boy friend was called Daneil, he was the first I had met with that name.

Bowlersarm · 08/07/2014 13:28

I don't think so. It was popular so it'll be found everywhere though.

Daniel Craig is a pretty impressive Daniel example.

We know loads of Daniels at private schools, if you don't mind measuring it that way. Not 'chavvy' at all.

BlueChampagne · 08/07/2014 13:28

No, it's lovely. Would have used it myself except it didn't work with surname.

squoosh · 08/07/2014 13:29

Daniel is an everyman name.

HedgehogHairbrush · 08/07/2014 13:29

Nope

mrsbucketxx · 08/07/2014 13:29

its fine, i wouldn't use chav on here though. lots don't like it

Bange · 08/07/2014 13:30

I like it in answer to the question you didn't ask!

Isn't it a new testament bible name?

Confused

So, in answer to the question you did ask, no, not in the real world. Possibly in mumsnetworld though. I've read names that were the names of High Kings in Ireland and the Irish for William labelled chav, so they have a high bar on mumsnet. You'd better ask the mother of a Lucius, a ptolemy or a sebastian.

curiousgeorgie · 08/07/2014 13:30

Not in the least!

It's completely class-less.

(As in, doesn't indicate anything about social class. Not that it's not classy.)

nomdemere · 08/07/2014 13:31

Old testament name, Bange (Daniel in the lion's den)

Bange · 08/07/2014 13:32

misschp1973 so your parents have two grandsons called Daniel Confused

StrawberryMojito · 08/07/2014 13:33

No it's a great name.

Bange · 08/07/2014 13:33

Sorry nnomdemere, I'm a godless heathen.

Bange · 08/07/2014 13:37

Actually, I think it's quite classy to choose a name like Robert or Daniel or James. It shows a complete indifference to what others below you on the food chain might think Wink

So in fact, it's classier than one of those middle-class names.

Brew Biscuit

jk jk jk as my children would say

readyforno2 · 08/07/2014 13:37

No!! My ds is called Daniel. It's a nice strong name!

weatherall · 08/07/2014 13:47

Dan/Danny are used car salesman name to me.

Pangaea · 08/07/2014 13:48

Completely agree Bange. Something very dignified about a neutral name like Daniel.

Linguaphile · 08/07/2014 14:15

Lovely and neutral--Daniel could be a bin man or a barrister.

Figster · 08/07/2014 14:19

No way!!
I have a 2yo Daniel although he's called Danny 99.5% of the time

CinnabarRed · 08/07/2014 14:22

Our 2 year old Daniel is mostly called Diddle-Pips. He's going to hate us when he's older....

TantrumsAndBalloons · 08/07/2014 14:22

Your dh is a twat for calling your ds name "chavvy"

JohnFarleysRuskin · 08/07/2014 14:22

Danny - champion of the world.
Daniel, my brother.

Its a lovely name, book and song.
Don't listen to your DH.

ScrambledSmegs · 08/07/2014 14:27

Say what?! Personally I would be very Hmm at your DH using the term 'chavkid'.

Daniel is a lovely name.
