I am pregnant with my first, we don't know sex yet but have a boy's name that we're agreed on. What do you think of Beatrix for a girl?

Like it.

marared · 29/06/2014 14:01

Lovely. And more exciting and unusual than Beatrice, which has exploded in popularity round here, nice though it is.

DitzyDonkey · 29/06/2014 14:24

Love it especially the spunky x on the end! I also love the nn Bee.

Maleducada · 29/06/2014 14:26

I like it. I like Béya or bee for short. I prefer Beatrix to beatrice for some reason. The issss sound is a bit waspish.

Needadvice5 · 29/06/2014 14:27

It's my favourite girls name!

Andcake · 29/06/2014 14:42

Like it would have been a middle name if we had a girl

polkydot · 29/06/2014 14:44

Oh, how lovely! I thought I was going to get people hating it. I'm glad DH and I are not going mad.

I prefer the x on the end, and was thinking Bea/Bee for a nickname. As long as it didn't end up being trixy!

I have no idea how popular Beatrix/Beatrice is, but I suppose it doesn't really matter if you love it.

Trix ....or Trixy is a fantastic Nn!!

StealthPolarBear · 29/06/2014 14:46

Nice but I do prefer beatrice

StealthPolarBear · 29/06/2014 14:47

X post with you, if you prefer it that's the important thing

Only1scoop · 29/06/2014 14:47

I was at school with a Beatrix ....

We used to call her 'Potter' Grin

FelixFelix · 29/06/2014 14:49

My dd's middle name is Beatrix and I wish id given it her as a first name! We call her Bea Smile

polkydot · 29/06/2014 14:52

I guess there's worse things to be called than Potter...

thecuntureshow · 29/06/2014 14:58

Please don't use it OP. I want it and I don't want it to become too popular Wink

DinoSnores · 29/06/2014 15:01

I think it is pretty.

polkydot · 29/06/2014 15:08

I had no idea it's becoming so popular, just been looking and some lists have it in the top 40.

Only1scoop · 29/06/2014 15:18

I only know one and that was years ago at school.

Don't let that put you off It's a beautiful name.

polkydot · 29/06/2014 15:24

Thank you.

names.darkgreener.com/#beatr shows the stats for Beatrix and Beatrice. Neither of them are in the Top 100 in England and Wales.

MsKittyKat123 · 29/06/2014 19:05

I love the name Beatrix, much nicer than Beatrice

Nereida · 29/06/2014 23:20

I prefer Beatrice, but Beatrix is still nice. Don't like the potential nickname Trixie though.

FeelingIrie · 29/06/2014 23:25

Love it. Love Bea as a nn also. Was on our list but doesn't go with our surname (starts O'... )

MyrtleDove · 29/06/2014 23:48

Love Beatrix and nn Trixie.

DramaAlpaca · 29/06/2014 23:51

Love Beatrix, nn Bea.

Trixie is a name only suitable for a small yappy dog with a bow around its neck.

ancientbuchanan · 29/06/2014 23:53

Like it lots.
