I hate Frozen

When pregnant with DS who is now 2, our girl name was Elsa. Now pregnant again I still love the name Elsa, but... Has Disney ruined it the name?

It's climbing up in popularity from virtually unheard of (two years ago) to number 88. Will the name now be forever associated with Frozen?

Not everyone will be aware of the current film.

To some of us, Elsa is forever the lioness (from the film which was huge in the 1970s).

What about Elsie instead?

not everyone will be aware of the film.... but all the pre schoolers I know are. They would however think it was amazing to be called Elsa. Not a bad association, at least Elsa doesn't need a man to solve her problems (just her sister!).

I think it would have increased in popularity anway - all the 'E' names - Ellie, Ella, Evie, Eva etc, it was bound to be next on the list.

If you wanted Elsa because you adored the name, then still use it. If you wanted Elsa because you adored the name AND loved that it wasn't popular you might want to rethink.

Elsa to me is the name of a lion... To a newer generation it's the name if a Disney character. My auntie likes her caravans, to her it reminds her of caravan toilets.

People will always associate names with what they know. It is likely to be very popular because of frozen but I have a popular name (for my time) it's never given me any issues.

I wanted to use Elsa too but now I'm not so sure either. I do agree with YoHoHo that it was probably going to become popular anyway as it is very similar to all those other 'E' names, so I don't think it's just because of Frozen.

My dd2 has an el name and though I love it I do worry it will get blurred.

I think Elsa may even be in too 20 by next year. How much do you love it?

Why have E names become so popular I wonder? My dd who is 2 has a name beginning with E although a very very unusual one, but I never really registered just how popular E names are untill after we had her.

Personally I love the name Elsa but like someone else said if part of the reason you liked it was because it was not too popular you might want to re think

People will forget Frozen in time. It's a beautiful name.

Elsa is always the lioness to me too.

Elsan is the caravan toilet. Elsa has never made me think of loos and I love my caravan.

I love the name Elsa, born free connotations for me.

Haven't noticed any increase in baby Elsas (am a midwife). Whether this changes over next few months I can't say.

It always used to remind me of the one in Home and Away, years ago. I think she was Ailsa though.

I have a 7 year old Anna but luckily due to the accents in Frozen she watched the film twice before I had to tell her the character was Ana not Arnor.

I love Ailsa and Elsa; both short listed for dd (2.8). I haven't seen Frozen, but if I were naming a baby now the momentary popularity of these names would not bother me.

Sorry, I disagree with Kleine. I think that once a name has been associated with a particular popular culture icon then that association stays. If someone said Ariel to me my first thought would be of the Little Mermaid (which was released 25 years ago) - then probably the character from the Tempest, so even older! Just look at all the people on this thread remembering Elsa the Lion!

So, yeah, I think for this generation they will always associate the name with the film.
