Casper probably (but it reminds me of Casper the Friendly Ghost cartoon)

bleurghblah · 22/06/2014 22:18

As bad as if someone called their kid Donald and then you think duck? Or not quite as bad?

I prefer Caspar, and I think it's an ok name.

MiloSimpson · 22/06/2014 22:36

Caspar

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 23/06/2014 11:18

Ds2 is Casper, spelt that way. People in this country tend to assume that spelling.

I love it (obv). One or two people have said Friendly Ghost, but tbh I think as the name becomes more popular (as it is doing) the association will start to fade. After all, it was a name before it was a ghost!

Mil attempted to shorten it to Caz. She got very short shrift...

Caspar is the original spelling I think. Casper doesn't look as solid.

KoalaDownUnder · 23/06/2014 14:17

I can't make up my mind, but I love it either way! Great name.

bleurghblah · 23/06/2014 15:14

Myname, are you in England? I think caspar is there traditional spelling of it but I don't want him to go through life having to explain his name all the time. What were people's reactions and have you heard of many others?

I really don't like gasper, and I love kaspar but I think it's probably a bit too german or thereabouts of name with a k??

Okay, I'm going to say Caspar. It looks better. Marginally.

There. Grin

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 24/06/2014 22:47

Yes, in

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 24/06/2014 22:48

England. Caspar is Persian spelling, Casper is anglicised.

Nothing but good reactions.

BanjoKazooie · 24/06/2014 22:54

Great choice! I know an adult Casper and I LOVE it. I like the spelling Casper.

McBear · 24/06/2014 22:59

Caspar looks weird. Casper looked right but less so the more I look at it.

Reminds me of the ghost tho... Do young people know of him?

YoHoHoandabottleofWine · 24/06/2014 23:03

Love love love that name, the name I wished I had used for DS2

I prefer Caspar, looks right, although I agree it might be a pain to spell every where.

5madthings · 24/06/2014 23:04

Caspar, it's my nephews name, that's how they spelt it and I prefer it with the a. Casper is my old cat and the friendly ghost.

Either way it is a fabulous name :)

Boudica1990 · 24/06/2014 23:10

Casper is my choice. Caspar looks a bit off to me.

Oh but yes Casper the friendly.ghost does come to mind, but he was a friendly ghost so not bad association :)

bleurghblah · 25/06/2014 19:52

And what about kasper? I was expected everyone to hate it as I normally read AIBU so am loving how nice everyone is. Is Kasper too much?

I think it's 50/50 for e and a.....

rosieposey · 25/06/2014 20:02

DS2 is a Caspar, I wanted a Christmassy name and it derives ( apparently ) from one of the names of the three wise men - regarless of the spelling i love it and it really suits him.

WowserBowser · 25/06/2014 20:04

I really like both!

rosieposey · 25/06/2014 20:05

Oh and as for the friendly ghost thing i few people scoffed and said that when we said what his name was going to be but I don't let it bother me.

DS1 is a Milo and we also got the malted drink/tweenies connection mentioned several times but if you like a name just use it. No one ever mentions Bella or Jake do they? Grin

marmitelover · 25/06/2014 20:06

Sorry, I hate it spelt either way! But it's your baby so go with what you like and what scans with your surname.

I will always think ghost. And was Kaspar a knight in the tales of Narnia?

WowserBowser · 25/06/2014 20:07

Yes, and they become their name. People forget about the connotations once they know a child.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 26/06/2014 12:41

I have a friend who keeps calling him Hugo, as she says it's the "same sort of name". I totally disagree, as Hugo is not my cup of cha at all! Love Milo though Rosie. We obviously have similar taste. Do you have any other dc?
