Arlo - How popular / trendy exactly is it?

DP and I really like Arlo, but I'm reluctant to give a name that is really trendy or faddy. We live in Scotland and I discovered that last year there were only 17 Arlo's, which is encouraging. Is it really popular in England? Is it seen as a faddy name choice? I know that shouldn't matter if we like it but somehow it does...

I really like it and have only heard it about once or twice recently; however, I'm very much of the school...if YOU like it, don't worry how popular etc it is (says she who was originally adamant we weren't giving our son any top 100 name ;).

I like it and you're far enough away from ghastly Harlow for there to be an association.

I know two baby Arlos. But it's never going to be top ten. I wouldn't worry.

Now, I would not dream of saying the following to anyone with a lovely new baby, face to face, but you did ask:

Arlo/ Harlow (for which it is a short version) are not really my cup of tea. Have you ever been to Harlow New Town?? It has no present-day 'real life' hinterland, if you see what I mean. No connections in everyday culture, just a few passing film/TV mentions and /or celebs. It rather says 'trying too hard'.
I have HONESTLY, ABSOLUTELY no wish to harm/be unpleasant. But...

I like it. Think it is quite trendy at the moment, but doubt it's top 10 material. A very 'hipster' school friend of mine (British but now living in Brooklyn) has just called her new baby Arlo. Think you're far enough away from Harlow for people to get it confused with the town.

I'm in the south east and know a few baby Arlo's. TBH I'm not a fan, it sounds a bit try-hard/wannabe upper-class to me, and I'd definitely say it's faddy.

As you're the other end of the UK to me I guess it would have totally different feel, so if you love it go for it!

Was one in my daughter's previous nursery (she is 5) and have not met any others (but suspect may be more in the South/ London). I would place it in the try-hard/trendy category, along with Milo. If there were only 17 in Scotland I wouldn't stress about popularity!

flora Do you mean that Arlo is short for Harlow? I've never heard that before, I thought Arlo was a Spanish name

I live near Harlow in Essex and people from Harlow pronounce it Arlo. With a nasty Essex twang. But as you're in Scotland I would say it's lovely if you like it

I think someone is pulling your leg flora, Arlo is nothing to do with Harlow - it's more likely to be after this chap - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arlo_Guthrie it's a cool name but I know 3, 2 of which were born last year.

I have come across a couple in London so I think it is gaining in popularity. It does sound a bit trendy to me, like Milo, but that's fine if you like it.

It would be a bit faddy for me. But if you like it go for it. High are never going to please everyone.

I know an 8 year old one, I loved it (and Arlo Guthrie) so much I named my kitten (baby replacement) after him. He's pretty splendid looking.

I adore the name! I'm considering it as a middle name. Unusual yet trendy and will never be popular. I imagine he will be the only Arlo in his class at school.

Natasha Kaplinsky has one, that would put me off to be honest.
