Do you know an Ezekiel?

If so, where do you live? Country or county?

Is it becoming popular?

Thank you!

coffeeinbed · 06/06/2014 21:12

Limited popularity, I should think.

mswibble · 06/06/2014 21:14

How is it pronounced? Ez-eh-keel?
Not come across it myself.

Pebbles0934 · 06/06/2014 21:14

That's what I thought! However, It is ranked in top 500, I think at 485 and growing higher in the ranks in UK and is ranked 186 in US.

It's cool, but not as "now" as Obediah.

HTH

mummybare · 06/06/2014 21:21

I don't know any but I love it! Would love to have a little Zeke, but unfortunately DH has vetoed. Angry

JessyJames · 06/06/2014 21:44

DH has a cousin who has an Ezechiel. They are in Mauritius.

squoosh · 06/06/2014 22:38

I'm no Mystic Meg but I think it's fair to say that Ezekiel will always be niche.

guineapig1 · 06/06/2014 22:43

I like it! Classic but quirky...just my style...appreciate however that it may be an acquired taste for others.

guineapig1 · 06/06/2014 22:44

Oh and sorry should add know 2 but neither are under 30

Dollybird86 · 06/06/2014 22:54

I know 3 all under 6 and one of my parents friends, I'm in Yorkshire. It's a lovely name was on our boys list but a close friend got there first!

TitsCrossed · 06/06/2014 22:58

Makes me think of Pulp Fiction!

TitsCrossed · 06/06/2014 22:59

Zeke is a cool nn though.

PeterParkerSays · 06/06/2014 23:01

I don't know any, to me it's more of an American name. He would always be known as Zeke though.

TheDetective · 06/06/2014 23:02

I know of two. One 6, and a newborn (will be around 2-3 months old now).

TheDetective · 06/06/2014 23:02

Oh and Lancashire/merseyside.

squoosh · 06/06/2014 23:04

Dollybird you know three Ezekiels under the age of three?? Are they from very religious families?

Florrieboo · 07/06/2014 04:15

Our 2 year old DD was going to be Ezekiel, obviously being a DD changed that.
I don't know any personally. I love it.

madwomanbackintheattic · 07/06/2014 04:19

Zeke and Luther. Tragically a v popular tween American TV show.

I can't hear Ezekiel without seeing deliberately dumb skater boys these days, I'm afraid.

LettertoHerms · 07/06/2014 04:21

It's not unusual in the US. Not hugely popular (maybe in some areas) but not going to get a second glance. Common nn is Zeke.

ExitPursuedByABear · 07/06/2014 04:32

I was only thinking that I have always loved the name Mordechai and Malachi

TheWholeOfTheSpoon · 07/06/2014 04:43

Are you Amish?! Or just a fan of Kingpin?

Pebbles0934 · 07/06/2014 06:16

Not a fan of Kingpin? Explain.....
My partner is a fan of the Walter Mosley books and likes E-Z (easy) as a nn not Zeke

Can't believe you know 3 under 6 Dolly!

I think it is growing in popularity then maybe?!

About 10 years ago, no one would have called their child Noah, but now there's loads of them.

I think people are looking to other biblical names, as well.

It's a proper name, it has meaning for you and DP. I think you should go for it.

BUT, do not announce the name to family and friends before the baby is born. Only really rude people will make a nasty comment about the name when introduced to a little person for the first time. Everyone else will just shut their mouths, and keep their opinions to themselves.

(That sounds like I think everyone will hate it. I don't. But I can see it's a bit marmite.)

florascotia · 07/06/2014 10:13

Sanity you are so right! I just looked up the list, and 17 out of the top 50 boys names in England and Wales in 2012 are Biblical. Here they are, with position on list:

Jacob 5, Thomas 6, James 10, Joshua 11, Ethan 13, Noah 14, Samuel 15, Daniel 16, Joseph 22, Isaac 30, Benjamin 32, Jake (= Jacob) 33, Adam 39, Zachary 40, Luke 45, Matthew 47, Toby 49.

There is also Jack (2), which is a version of John, and Lucas (25) which is a version of Luke. Some day that Jayden (37) is a version of Biblical Jadon, but others disagree. There are several more Biblical names in the top 100 list, eg Aaron, Nathan, Michael, David, Rueben, Jude, Gabriel, Elijah, Caleb...

Snoutthematter · 07/06/2014 18:05

I know 1, he's about 38 and cool as. He's always referred to as Zeke though
