Sara - the others sound made up

NadiaWadia · 04/06/2014 22:10

They are Muslim names, I think? - so not 'made up'. Sara and Mariam are both lovely. Do you pronounce as Sah-ra or some other way?

RosegoldRuby · 04/06/2014 22:11

Mariam, lovely name.

RiverTam · 04/06/2014 22:15

oh, I thought they were all Jewish Blush.

I don't really like any of them, in my mind the 'a' sound in all of them is quite a hard sound.

Viatrix · 04/06/2014 23:17

Hania, but I like all three names.

LauraChant · 04/06/2014 23:19

I love Sara, one of my favourite names.

NadiaWadia · 04/06/2014 23:30

Well, maybe they are Jewish then? But I thought 'Mariam' was Muslim, whereas 'Miriam' was Jewish? Sara/Sarah, Miriam/Mariam/Maria/Mary, I think they are all variations of the same original names. Not heard of Hania, I will admit.

Devora · 04/06/2014 23:32

I have known two Mariams - one was my best friend at school. One was North African, the other Iranian.

I think all three names are beautiful. Hania might get mistaken for Hannah all the time? But then I suppose Mariam will get mistaken for Miriam.

Ach, they're all lovely.

AuntieStella · 04/06/2014 23:37

I like Mariam the best, then Sara.

TheSarcasticFringehead · 04/06/2014 23:40

I love Mariam (but then it's my friend's name, so I'm biased!) as it sounds kind and gentle iyswim? I also like Sara- considered it for DD in fact- but I think it sounds a bit plainer than Mariam. Not a fan of Hania tbh.

fizzly · 04/06/2014 23:42

I love Mariam, but do bear in mind that she will be called Miriam by almost everyone she ever meets. I have a Dd with a name that causes similar confusion. It doesn't bother me but I worry about when she is 3 or 4 and whether she'll be bolshy enough to correct people when I'm not around!

I think Sara's a bit boring.

Hania might be easier for people to pronounce from the spelling, versus Mariam.

TheSarcasticFringehead · 04/06/2014 23:44

I've only heard Hania once, she was Polish if it makes any difference, might be a bit more unusual as Sara/Mariam are comparatively popular, imo.

manicinsomniac · 05/06/2014 00:24

All lovely. Hania is my favourite.

SilverSixpence · 05/06/2014 00:28

I like Mariam and know people with all the names, Mariam and Sara especially are quite popular. The Mariam I know is called Miriam even by her own siblings so don't think it matters too much.

SquirrelledAway · 05/06/2014 06:57

You can also spell Mariam as Maryam.

scottishmummy · 05/06/2014 07:04

Congratulations
Like them all,be aware Mariam Maybe pronounced Miriam.what about maryam spelling

mancomm1 · 05/06/2014 11:25

thanks all - love all the comments - seems balanced but more tilted towards Mariam and Sara
Interesting but very hard decision for us - any further comments will be welcomed - cheers
once again thank you all :) :)

Jewish/Muslim/Christian names do crossover because of the Abrahamic root. Adam, Daniel, Sara, Mary/Meriem etc. I like Mariam from your list.

Spaghettinetti · 05/06/2014 14:05

I love Hania. The town of Hania (Chania) in Crete is one of my favourite places!

SquallyShowers · 05/06/2014 14:11

All nice. I love Mariam/Maryam. Its such a beautiful name.

SquallyShowers · 05/06/2014 14:13

Also, I live in Londn and know a few Maryams but no miriams, so dont think it will be automatically confused. If you know any Muslim families then you probably know a Maryam!

matchingmoll · 05/06/2014 16:42

Mariam is lovely.

Rhubarbgarden · 06/06/2014 06:28

I love Mariam and Hania. I used to know a lovely Hania, she was half Polish.

Sara is dull.

ChickenMe · 06/06/2014 10:31

What about Mariama?

NickiFury · 06/06/2014 10:34

I like Mariam but spelt Maryam. I think it's beautiful.
