How many baby Oscars do you know?

Oscar is the only name that I've felt could be "The One", but I'm a bit concerned about how popular it is (especially in Surrey, where we live).

So, how many do you know of?

I know 2, one is a 2 year old, twin of Elsie
The other one is 16
I like it

CharlesRyder · 31/05/2014 15:22

It is very popular in Surrey/ South East. I was at a children's play place in Berkshire this week and heard it called so many times!

DS is nearly 4 and we had no idea when we chose it. We actually thought we were being a bit off beat!!! I wouldn't change it though, I never really liked any other names.

5madthings · 31/05/2014 15:30

I have an 11 yr old Oscar (almost 12) and I know a two five yr old Oscars.

It did go up in popularity but fell down the ons statistics last year.

squoosh · 31/05/2014 15:32

I like the name and love its place in Irish mythology but it is very popular indeed.

BitchPeas · 31/05/2014 15:41

I live in surrey. I know 6.

Ages 22, 15, 5, 5, 3 and 6 months.

It is a lovely name though!

Softlysoftlycatchymonkey · 31/05/2014 15:46

I teach children's sports and there are lots.

Usually the 'spirited' ones ..,

cantseemtohaveitall · 31/05/2014 15:47

I know a few personally - all toddler / pre-school ages and its a name I hear quite a lot (London)

ThingsThatShine · 31/05/2014 15:56

I know 2 young Oscars. I think it's fairly popular, which does not bother me as such, but I would be a bit concerned that it got so popular out of almost nowhere, so it may end up being a name noticeably of this era. However despite that I think its a lovely name! If you love it and it's the one, I don't think you should be unduly put off.

DinoSnores · 31/05/2014 16:05

None.

Viatrix · 31/05/2014 18:30

Mckayz · 31/05/2014 18:31

TunipTheUnconquerable · 31/05/2014 18:32

PacificDogwood · 31/05/2014 18:35

Bloody clicked on the wrong pic… Blush

squoosh · 31/05/2014 18:45

Oscar the grouch would be most displeased to be mistaken for the big blue glutton!

PacificDogwood · 31/05/2014 18:46

Yes, he would, wouldn't he?
He was my favourite Sesame Street character when I was little in the States about 200 years ago

Christelle2207 · 31/05/2014 18:57

I know two little Oscars, 6 and 2

elQuintoConyo · 31/05/2014 19:07

One.
He's 2.6.
He's mine!

We are abroad and it's a nice international name that both my and DH's families can spell and pronounce.
He was named after Walter Matthau's character in The Odd Couple. Felix was too cat-like.

I've never met a dog named Oscar!

DS is also "spirited" SoftlySoftlyCatchyMonkey !

1 (3 months) its a lovely name IMO

nasara · 02/06/2014 21:59

Thanks for your replies - I had just begun to not care about the popularity issue when I looked up Oscar on the Bounty names app and it's got it ranked at 8th most popular name for last month! Admittedly, that's just amongst those in the Bounty parenting club but still...

I guess I'll have to wait till August when ONS release their data for last year to find out if this is representative of national rankings but it's definitely got me concerned.

Would this bother you?
