DC is due next month (June 2045) and we are looking for nice vintage type name suggestions.

I love love love Brenda for a girl, but it seems to be very popular at the moment. Other names on our shortlist are Denise and Beverly (nn Bev).

For boys we're tossing up between Trevor (nn Trev) and Nigel (after DH's Grandad).

Any other suggestion? My DS has a Leslie and a Gail, so those names are out, unfortunately.

I think those names are going to be back in a few years, rather than 30.

We are already well through the Pearl, Ivy, Albert stage. It'll be Denise and Trevor next.

Boys: Wayne or Barry

Oh dear. I thought I was being quite edgy with those names. DH did suggest Gemma for a girl but I associate that name with my Granny's friends.

I love your choices OP. Brenda was on our girl's list but, as you say, it's become very popular in the last few years. Have you considered Trish or Linda?

Keith and Pauline, although might be a bit top 50 for you.

Lovely choices I'd go with Beverly or Trevor, Bev and Trev are great nicknames.

We have decided on Mervyn for a boy and Jackie for a girl

Mervyn is lovely. I also like Norman and Derek.

I'm not too keen on Jackie, I think I'd prefer Michelle or Yvonne.

Oh, I do like Brian but I prefer the Bryan spelling.

I don't want to be too 'out there' but neither do I want my dc to be one of half a dozen Tonys, Dawns, Wendys or Howards at school.

Howard is lovely- what about Hank?

Does hank pass the high court judge test though? Shirley is far too cutsey.

I like Lily and Amelia for girls and Jack and Oliver for boys but maybe they're a bit too 'out there'? You don't want your kids to be the odd ones out.

How about Barbara? Similar to Brenda, but not as popular. Have you considered Gillian (I love Gill as a nn). I do like Trevor - it was on our list too. Have you considered Roger or Bernard?

I really like Lee for a DS and you could also use Leigh if it turns out to be a DD? If you like compound names, how about Leanne? Oh and I LOVE Craig, a timeless classic IMO.

How about Maureen? It was my great aunt's name and I think it is beautiful and timeless. If you like Denise for a girl how about Dennis for a boy? Or is that already too popular (top 50 these days).

How about Neil or Ian if you don't mind going for something a bit edgy?

I love Maureen but it's getting terribly popular in my area. I know of three under a year. I like Sheila but DH thinks it's a bit chavvy. What would you all think of Moira?

I can't believe no-one has suggested Graham - or I heard you can spell it Graeme if you really want to be original.

Have you thought of Brittany or Kyle? Gorgeous vintage names, IMO, and they're beautifully fresh. I'm so over the Carol/Brenda/Michael trend.
