Help - I hate all girl's names!

I've been through the baby name book from beginning to end and not a single girl's name really appeals to me (conversely I have plenty of boy's names shortlisted).

The closest I've got to names I like are Ada, Erin, Robin. Names which are strong, not fussy a bit like boy's names

I really don't like common names like Clare, Sarah, Liz
Or long fussy names (anything with three or more syllables is out unless there is a strong nn).

Any ideas?

Make one up!

I like Reese for a girl.

The possibilities are endless if you're making one up though :)

hakunafrittata · 28/05/2014 02:40

What about 'boys' names that are also girls names, like Billie?

hakunafrittata · 28/05/2014 02:40

Or Mickey/ Mickie

NancyinCali · 28/05/2014 05:30

I found girls names so much harder than boys!
How about: Harriet (nn Harry), Hetty, Jo, Anna, Sam (Samantha), Nancy, Jenna, Mia, Bea.

fruitpastille · 28/05/2014 05:34

Rowan
Alexandra
Robyn
Wren

PrincessOfChina · 28/05/2014 05:38

I was the opposite - I found boys names dull and uninspiring compare to girls.

How about Clara, Elle, Kate, Rowan.

Also, I don't think you'll find Clare, Liz and Sarah at all popular within toddler circles!

notadoctor · 28/05/2014 05:45

Ada, Erin and Robyn are all great names. You don't need a long shortlist, just a couple you really like.

How about Edie, Josie, Rowan, Jean, Clara, Connie, Seren?

Coughle · 28/05/2014 06:29

What boys names do you like?

Plateofcrumbs · 28/05/2014 07:29

Thanks for all the suggestions. Of those, Harriet I quite like, and Alexandra (although both have some personal connections I can't entirely shake off). Rowan is good (always liked it as a boy's name).

Jo, Anna, Sam, Kate - file alongside Liz, Sarah, Clare. Not for me.

With the exception of Ada (because of the hard 'd' I think) I'm not that struck by any of the popular short names ending in a/ie (Eva, Evie, Ava, Maya, Mia etc).

Cleo
Eden
Niamh (or 'Neve')
Paige
Brynn

PicardyThird · 28/05/2014 07:37

Frances?
Maren (German, pronounced mah-ren, stress on first syllable)?
Meriel?
Ellen?
Sally?
Lauren?
Tamsin?

millymae · 28/05/2014 07:37

How about Gilda?

It was the name of the character played by Rita Hayworth in the film of the same name. I've not seen the film myself but apparently Gilda was the ultimate femme fatale!

NationMcKinley · 28/05/2014 07:49

Eden?

TweeAintMee · 28/05/2014 07:54

Michaela?

TweeAintMee · 28/05/2014 07:55

Roberta or Bob for short?

Only1scoop · 28/05/2014 07:55

Enid

MairzyDoats · 28/05/2014 07:57

Linnet? As in the bird. She was the little girl in the Children of Green Knowe. Always loved that name. Or Malin, think it's Swedish.

stinkingbishop · 28/05/2014 07:59

Mallory
Mackenzie
Charlie (for Charlotte)
Bea (for Beatrice)
Liberty
Fallon
Jaime
Henry or Harry for Henrietta or Harriet

Or agree with making one up - favourite colour? place? Day? Month?

DearDinah · 28/05/2014 08:03

Esther?

PicardyThird · 28/05/2014 08:14

How about Helen? An excellent classic name you don't hear much these days. Or, still on the What Katy Did theme, Clover?

I knew sisters growing up called Judith and Susan. Those are good strong serious names IMO.

TweeAintMee · 28/05/2014 08:17

How about Pip?

BellaVida · 28/05/2014 08:17

MrsSheldonCooper1 · 28/05/2014 08:43

I also love helen or Helena with nn Lenny. I know it's a pretty acquired taste lol but I think it's sweet. Or if not Lenny then Laney.
