Help - I hate all girl's names!

I've been through the baby name book from beginning to end and not a single girl's name really appeals to me (conversely I have plenty of boy's names shortlisted).

The closest I've got to names I like are Ada, Erin, Robin. Names which are strong, not fussy a bit like boy's names

I really don't like common names like Clare, Sarah, Liz
Or long fussy names (anything with three or more syllables is out unless there is a strong nn).

Any ideas?

I know a Camryn and pronounced cam-rin rather being cameron.

Rosemary nn romy is good and strong IMO

Morna, Rita, Jude, Rhona,

Aida/Ada/Ayda - I heart these

MrsRuffdiamond · 28/05/2014 22:20

Mabel?

I think that's a strong, no frills name!

Ursula
Maud
Morgan/Morgana

I know a little Audrey - it's gorgeous

She doesn't really have it shortened. And I only know one so doesn't seem to be one of those older names that are becoming very popular.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I'm going to run these past DH and see where we get to. There are quite a few names I like in abstract but can't actually imagine them as a name for my child. And I know I'm a big user of nicknames so a good nn is a must.

Mab or Mabs is the nn for Mabel! Ticks all the boxes Wink

I've always liked 'Molly' for a girl. Old fashioned, or chic?

Etta

Molly is nice actually, but (like a lot of popular names at the moment) I think it suits a child more than an adult.

TheSpork some interesting suggestions there - I like Liberty, Parker and Winifred but those will get vetoed by DH straight away.

Mabel is in the 'like it in abstract' category. Good name for a cat!

It might help to share some of your favourite boys' names to get an idea of the feel you're after.

Boy's names on (my) list include: Joshua, Oscar, Jacob, Samuel, Dexter, Leo. Although to be honest there are a lot of boys names I would be happy with. DH has vetoed Dexter my favourite Angry

Has anyone suggested Thea yet>

Plateofcrumbs · 29/05/2014 17:11

Thea is nice but I have a slight problem pronouncing words starting in 'th' Blush

Jane
Hermione - nn Mi
Helen - nn Nell.

Be prepared for the nickname you choose not to stick, by the way!

Plateofcrumbs · 29/05/2014 17:13

As you can see from the boy's names, they're mostly Top 100 popular names, nothing too quirky, but the female equivalents just don't really do it for me.

Ooh, me too! I think that's why I recommend it on here, I love it too but with my lisp it's not exactly the best name. May I also suggest not going anywhere near Elizabeth - it was on our shortlist and I always thought any other DD's could be an Elizabeth, but now I know someone with that name I lisp and trip over it a hell of a lot more than I ever thought I would Grin
