So we had one name only, no back up (doh!), and now my DD has arrived. Sadly our one name can't be used for reasons I shan't bore you with. So we need a girl name. Feel awful calling her baby!

Names that are being considered are:

Miri
Mia
Lana/Lani
As a by the by I like Ottilie and Leonie but dh thinks they're a 'bit much' for his taste.

Names I love but can't use are Ella, Kate, Sadie.

I'd love your opinion on these/suggestions for others of a similar ilk? Would be grateful if you could be gentle - this name business has been an emotional roller coaster so far...

Thank you-lots more great suggestions.

I really like the names ending 'Ella' but it's too close to home. Not heard of Lina before -that's lovely.

No still not decided. Started to think about stealing dd1's middle name (Sadie) but clearly sleep deprivation is taking effect as that would be wrong-tempting (particularly as that was my first choice for her first name)-but wrong.

Like lana

adaloveslace · 23/05/2014 23:06

It wouldn't be the worst crime to steal DD's middle name. Sadie is very cool. Or what about Zadie? Works for Zadie Smith....

helensburgh · 23/05/2014 23:11

Murren?

Congratulations

McFox · 23/05/2014 23:12

Marnie and Mia are the 2 names on our list for the little one who currently seems to be trying to fight her way out of me!! We're leaning towards Marnie as it's more unusual.

Hope you manage to choose something soon Smile it's so hard!

Mutteroo · 24/05/2014 02:32

Go for Minna! I know one Minna and she's an adult and beautiful in every way. It's also not a very common name so there won't be 3 more in her class. Best of luck with your choice OP

Marie/Maria
Orla
Amy
Miriam
Ivy
Penny
Sally

Random suggestions! Let us know what you decide. Smile

Started to think about stealing dd1's middle name

My aunt and uncle did this. The name in question was their favourite name but was already used by another family member (their DN) so they used it as middle name for DD1. When their DD2 arrived they couldn't think of another name they liked so they decided to use it.

Not many people even noticed and those that did weren't bothered (or not for long anyway). Certainly my cousins don't mind and my mum thought it was funny that all 3 of her nieces shared the same name.

If you are really struggling to think of anything else that feels right then I don't see that using DD1's middle name would be so terrible.

ChocolateChocolate · 27/05/2014 22:59

Thank you for such considered responses.

On the 'stealing middle name' point, I asked dd1 what she thought and she didn't seem keen-but might try to talk again to be sure.

We've got three weeks before dd2 will need to be registered as 'baby'...!

Thanks for posting your opinions and suggestions, and particularly for being so sensitive. We have a name now. After doing some more research locally to see how common the name is in our area-clearly not a statistically representative sample but ... -and trying out different names on a daily basis, we've decided on Mia.

Thanks very much

Welcome to the world, Mia!

GreatAuntDinah · 29/05/2014 09:16

If you like Sadie but can't use it, how about Sukie?

GreatAuntDinah · 29/05/2014 09:18

Oops, sorry didn't see you'd chosen Mia!

MuttonCadet · 29/05/2014 09:22

Mia is a lovely name, congratulations!

DessieLou · 29/05/2014 21:29

Mia is lovely!
