I now have a gorgeous DD but no name

So we had one name only, no back up (doh!), and now my DD has arrived. Sadly our one name can't be used for reasons I shan't bore you with. So we need a girl name. Feel awful calling her baby!

Names that are being considered are:

Miri
Mia
Lana/Lani
As a by the by I like Ottilie and Leonie but dh thinks they're a 'bit much' for his taste.

Names I love but can't use are Ella, Kate, Sadie.

I'd love your opinion on these/suggestions for others of a similar ilk? Would be grateful if you could be gentle - this name business has been an emotional roller coaster so far...

Congratulations on your baby.

I loved Lana until a straight talking friend pointed out it is anal spelt backwards which I can never unhear.

Sorry.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 15/05/2014 14:39

Ahh, congratulations Thanks

No suggestions, just sending a wee hug (Or give her one of your own!!)

spiderlight · 15/05/2014 14:40

What about Lara?

crankypants · 15/05/2014 14:40

You can't change your DH's mind on Ottilie? I love that name, gorgeous.

If not, I really like Marnie as someone previously suggested. Also Nina and Zoe.

Lucy
Chloe
Emily
Emilia (nn Emmie)
Matilda (nn Tilly)
Lotta

Mia is very sweet too. What about Mila?

crankypants · 15/05/2014 14:41

Mary?

ExitPursuedByABear · 15/05/2014 14:43

Sigh.

When will posters of baby name threads realise that we need a photo of the baby!

Spottybra · 15/05/2014 14:44

Eila?
Rose?
Mayim?

minipie · 15/05/2014 14:45

I agree Bear - I still can't see the photos of baby Thea Eloise Jane

but just possibly the OP has other things to do at the moment than upload photos Grin

ExitPursuedByABear · 15/05/2014 14:49

I have seen Thea's photo. She is simply gorgeous.

Aww did you think of a name yet? I know it can be difficult, my son went without a name for nearly a week, ok prob about 3/4 days. I was set on a name all the way through the pregnancy and when he was born I decided the name didn't suit him. It's awful having to say baby all the time isn't it? Bless, I'm sure you'll just click at some point and whatever you choose I'm sure will be lovely xx

PetaPipa · 16/05/2014 05:54

Miri is cute. Or how about Mairi (pronounced Mar-ee)?

BelleOfTheBorstal · 16/05/2014 05:58

Marion/Marian/Marianne?

Or Miryam/Miriam?

Or Margot/Margeruite?

mssleepyhead · 16/05/2014 18:20

Thank you, hearing your views is v helpful.

Lots of new suggestions that I really like too. Really like marnie, Tessa, rosa, laura and ria-but I have family/friends or ftheir children called this, same goes for Kate, Sadie and Ella. Thanks for pointing out the reverse spelling for lana- I hadn't noticed at all!

I like some of the longer names too but will not be able to get them past dh. He won't be persuaded with odette.

I know mia is in the top 10 registered births, and has been in the top 20 for a few years (so enough time to see them get to school age) but I know of just one -at dd1's nursery. teacher who lives next door said she's not taught a mia before, and just one maya, and she's been teaching for 20 years.

Sorry for a lack of photo. Quite new to mumsnet posting but will look into it.

CatOfTheDay · 20/05/2014 02:27

Meryl?

HeyJules · 20/05/2014 06:54

Lani Lani lani. 100%. I also love Helena with Lani or Lenny as a nn

Benchmark · 20/05/2014 16:51

Mirabel? Shortened to Miri?
Merryn - could be Miri or Merry
Miri on its own looks a bit unfinished.
I like Lana but prefer Lena.
I actually think Mia is a lovely name despite tr popularity, so simple and feminine.

Congratulations :)
