Names like Thomas

Help! I've just found out that my baby is a boy and I can't find a boys name I really love. If I tell you the types of names I quite like, I'm hoping someone can suggest other names I might like, or tell me what you think of my list so far. If it's any help, I would have chosen Rosa for a girl.

My current favourite is Thomas (Tom) but there seem to be loads of them about which might get a bit annoying.

I'm also considering:
Benjamin (Ben)
Adam
Joseph

Others I liked but discounted are:
Noah (doesn't work with surname)
Isaac (doesn't work with surname)
Sam (too similar to DH's name)
Seth (the th sound is a bit tricky for me to pronounce!)
Alex (not sure about it for some reason)

Love Joseph!
Adam & Ben are nice too; not as keen on Thomas.

Edward
James
Christian / Christopher
Matthew
Luke / Lucas / Luca
Nathaniel
Daniel
Zachary
Theo
Leo
Marcus
Aidan

I like Joseph too but I think DH is less keen. It's definitely a contender though. I like James and Daniel but have close family members with those names, and I like Luke/Lucas but DH hates them! Quite like Zachary too but our surname ends in a similar 'ary' sound so doesn't sound right together. Good ideas but still nothing I really love, any other suggestions?

Biased but my fave combo is Ben Thomas

Thanks for all the replies, I like lots of these suggestions, especially the lists from Fairy and Mother. None of them are really jumping out as the perfect name, I think my favourites are Thomas, Ben and Joseph. The only slight problem is that I know people with a Thomas and a Joseph already - not close friends, I probably only see them a few times a year but we're likely to stay in touch long term. I know it doesn't really matter but it feels a bit like I'm copying other people rather than finding my own names!

I have a grown-up Joe & Sam (both have full Sunday names on birth certs)

but when they were still quite small wished I'd gone for eg Max or Leo or Jacob, which were rarer; there were 4 Sams in my Sam's Reception class, one a girl. or even (gasp) Peter or Michael - you can't go wrong with a classic British name Smile

(Actually I had wanted Nicholas for Sam, but was outvoted)

Anyway Thomas/Tom is also a lovely classic name & really not one you can be accused of copying.

NearTheWindymill · 14/05/2014 22:17

I forgot Henry!

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 14/05/2014 22:25

you also forgot Percy, Donald & Douglas Wink

not to mention Duck...

NearTheWindymill · 14/05/2014 22:47

It was such a long time ago. But yes of course! Well done.

I read a book with a boy called Goose once - Duck doesn't quite ring right does it.

I have a Thomas! Great name. I like Joseph too. I have only met one other Thomas at baby groups so didn't realise it was so popular.

Ilovebean · 15/05/2014 08:33

I love the name Thomas (it's my brothers name). Can't say I know that many of them any more apart from him (I'm in East London), I love Joseph as well.

What about George or Charlie?
