We both love this name - we are ttc #3 - are we mad?

I'd wait until the end of the books.... she could do anything yet!

fancyanotherfez · 05/05/2014 21:43

I love it, and may try and use it in the future, but be prepared for loads of people going 'ooh Game of Thrones fan?'

iamdivergent · 05/05/2014 21:46

I know that's my issue lol Grin it's a lovely name though and means noble

Could you change the spelling to Aria? Are you musical at all?!

iamdivergent · 05/05/2014 22:40

No not musical in the slightest. Love got though Grin pre tv series I might add - we liked it before it got popular Wink

If it helps, I'm halfway through book 4, and she is a great character so far. Loads of people call their kids after characters in books.

CaptainSinker · 05/05/2014 22:52

Are ya really going to give a child this name?

fancyanotherfez · 05/05/2014 22:54

Blimey after some of the weird and wonderful names on here. Arya is positively mainstream! ( and lovely)

andmyunpopularopionis · 05/05/2014 23:20

I think Arya is a lovely name.. There are far worse names than that.

beershuffle · 06/05/2014 10:42

You know most people will read it as Are-yah, and hearing it will spell it Aria?

It will also date badly, a kylie for the 2010s.

curiousgeorgie · 06/05/2014 10:49

I love it.. And not everyone will know it's from GOT.

squoosh · 06/05/2014 11:02

It's definitely becoming really popular so won't raise too many eyebrows. I'm just allergic to naming kids after fantasy characters.

Think it will date, along with all the little Tyrions which will undoubtedly follow.

TunipTheUnconquerable · 06/05/2014 11:03

I heard a dad go 'Come on, Arya!' in the play area at the weekend.
First time I have seen a kid with GoT name in real life!

squoosh · 06/05/2014 11:07

There were 104 Aryas born in 2012, I predict that number will have quadrupled for 2014.

CommanderShepard · 06/05/2014 11:10

I know a thirtysomething Arya - nowt to do with GoT (I prefer Aria though)

FiveExclamations · 06/05/2014 11:23

How about as a second name? Or teamed with a more conventional second name so they can swap them as the mood takes them?

Aryana is apparently an established name If you wanted something that Arya could be a diminutive of, or Aryahi

Amyrose82 · 06/05/2014 11:38

It's a lovely name, and was very much a name before GoT (unlike Khaleesi which I have seen as a suggestion on here too!) but will be linked to GoT for some time to come so it just depends how you feel about that! It was also the fastest-growing baby name in the States in 2012 and is gaining popularity over here too.

It's actually top of DH's list if this bean turns out to be a girl, but for me the link to that one particular character (as kick-ass and fab as she is!) is just too strong!

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 06/05/2014 11:59

All the Game of Thrones names will date hugely. Doesn't matter whether you liked the books pre TV series, the series is now in the national consciousness and kids are being named after characters all over the place. The fad will burn out pretty soon and you will be left with a name that will sound dated very quickly.

daphnehoneybutt · 06/05/2014 13:55

Love GoT and the character but its too like Aryan for me.

Choccyhobnob · 06/05/2014 17:02

Again if it helps I have read all the published books and there is nothing to do with Arya that would put me off the name although still 2 more books to come I think. Was trying to word that without any spoilers!

iamdivergent · 06/05/2014 19:20

Thanks all - one to have a think on I think Smile I do love it, but may go for it even as a middle name. plus it could sky rocket in popularity. dd has a top 10 name but in a school of 400 not one other with her name, dd2 name was 4000+ in the list when she was born it's about 1000ish now. my name is not on the list Wink

Dazedconfused · 07/05/2014 13:52

aww it is really nice name but will definitely be associated with GoT you could get her a toy dog and call it the hound Grin

iamdivergent · 07/05/2014 18:57

Shock Shock Shock yes!!!! I want to do this lol

atypicalwotsit · 07/05/2014 22:01

It sounds a little weak, no edges. Aahhhyahhh. Prefer aria as the r gives it substance

NoArmaniNoPunani · 07/05/2014 22:03

How is it pronounced? Reminds me of Aryan too
