First of all, yes I'm due in Winter Grin is it a bit mad? Summer and Autumn seem to be widely used! I think Winnie would be a sweet nn!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
JumpingJackSprat · 04/05/2014 19:50

Winter yes i like it. winnie not so much. But it's your child.

AMI88 · 04/05/2014 19:51

Absolutely love Winnie- not a fan of winter (the name or season) :( sorry hope that's not mean!

EyelinerQueen · 04/05/2014 19:52

I really really like Winter. Have done ever since Nicole Ritchie called her wee one Harlow Winter Kate.

Not so keen on Winnie though but that may be because I had a thoroughly horrible Great Aunt called Winnie!

NickiFury · 04/05/2014 19:55

I never heard of people assigning nicknames before I came on MN, surely they should just happen?

I like Winter but would never be brave enough to use it. Don't like Winnie though, sorry.

meditrina · 04/05/2014 19:56

I found several ancestors called Winter.

All men.

Andcake · 04/05/2014 20:03

Both fine but this whole deciding nn thing is weird. She'll probably change it as a teenager!

meringue33 · 04/05/2014 20:04

I liked Winter for a boy but I've heard it's definitely a girls name nowadays. V pretty and rare.

meringue33 · 04/05/2014 20:05

Don't like Winnie btw as I'd think it was short for Winifred.

Spinaroo · 04/05/2014 20:07

I like it- less keen on Winnie, but it could grow on me

CrispyFern · 04/05/2014 20:08

I love Winter but I don't love Winnie.

squoosh · 04/05/2014 20:09

Winnie isn't an attractive name in any way.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 04/05/2014 20:27

Winnie is ridiculous as a nickname for winter. Winter as a name is just the right side of weird and I like it, but it's so different in character and tone to Winnie that they are totally unrelated names.
I just finished a novel by MM Kaye with a character called Winter de Ballesteros. Loved it.

Bowlersarm · 04/05/2014 20:29

I like Winter, not keen on Winnie. Winter seems quite strong and attractive whereas Winnie sounds wet and weak.

Meglet · 04/05/2014 20:31

There was a little girl at the DC's nursery with exactly the same name, Winter but nn Winnie. I liked it.

Cataline · 04/05/2014 20:33

Love love love and know a Winter and a Winnie- both thoroughly suit their names

DitzyDonkey · 04/05/2014 21:12

Thanks for the replies so far! Oh I don't know I don't think I will ever pick a girls name! I like Winter my dh loves it but I don't know if its the one!

Winter for a winter born baby is nice. Win would be a cool nickname but agree that nicknames evolve naturally.

gymboywalton · 04/05/2014 21:55

Makes me think whinging winnie

DD2 has a friend called Winter. Unfortunately the child's surname is an article of clothing...

Graciejoylove8 · 05/05/2014 12:32

Winter is lovely.
But I'm with a lot of other posters, Winnie is less lovely.
But it would prob happen naturally anyway (Winnie as a nn)

bouquetofpencils · 05/05/2014 22:53

Love Winter. Great choice.

Gugglebum · 06/05/2014 07:00

I love Winter, not as keen on Winnie. I only know one Winter (mn Eden) and she's a very beautiful, spunky and cool (no pun intended) little girl.

Darmok · 06/05/2014 13:34

I love Winter, beautiful name!

Sorry but far from keen on Winnie, that's too old-lady for me.

NationMcKinley · 06/05/2014 14:03

LOVE Winter. It's a fab name. I quite like Winnie but not as much Smile
